I pick up Ikea scratch and dent shelving pieces to use on top of my radiators. Even picked up a few stainless-clad shelves one time.

Although I think it is nice to like your contractor, the con men make themselves likable so you'll hire them. Then they take advantage of you liking them by counting on you forgiving their missteps or going over budget.

It is much easier to get mad (when you need to) at a guy who is only so so.

One morning last summer, I saw 4 young fox (foxes?) romping around near the edge of the wood in the park across the street from my city home. What a joy to see. I'll stick with the occasional live sighting over a figurine.

The only conversation pit that I've ever seen live was in an architect's home. The pit was circular and built-in. The biggest drawback I saw was the lack of versatility and the need for recovering and foam replacement rather frequently due to high use.

The pit sofas are comfy, but so awkward to get into - especially for elderly company.

I would only consider having a pit as a secondary seating option in a room all on its own.

I guess this means will have more ugly clothing to look forward to as well.

Tide HE, Dawn dishwashing liquid, Burt's Bees lip balm, Fiber One, Trader Joes Honey, Science Diet Light cat food, IAMS cat food, NEutrogena bath gel, Toyota, Puffs Plus, Pyrex, Feline Pine cat litter, LG products, Johnson Q-tips, Horizon Organic Milk, Muir Glen Organic canned tomatoes, Method spray cleaners...I guess that's it.

I wash my face, play laser with the cats, look at Flipboard for a bit, and then go to bed.

In the city where I live, you're not allowed to put trash out until the night before. Reason=rats. Trash is once a week, recycle once a week. Most of my "trash" is recyclable, but I try to buy things with as little packaging as possible. A bag of trash every day? Wow!

I love the painted cabinets. I painted mine years ago and was surprised how long the paint held up. I used to have open shelving, but that only works if you can keep things neat. Great idea moving the frig. It was awful taking up that beautiful space with the pretty windows. Speaking of windows, what happened to the big long window over the sink? Unless the view was bad, I would never want to give up prescious sunlight. Like the island.

Inspiring! My 1928 rowhouse has a long hallway upstairs. I painted the walls in a golden sort of hay color and replaced the door at the end of the hall with a French door to add more light. Finding a quality runner long enough or 2 that I like together has been a challenge.

It's beautiful, but a little too busy with all of the new (adds up $$) mill work...the word escapes me for what is on the lower part of the walls. It appears the after shot was taken from the opposite end of the hall, so the opening down on the right in the 1st shot is now on the left in the second. The opening itself makes the space seem less dark. I absolutely love the new transom windows above the doors and would love to do that in my long hallway too. The cost is too great to justify the end.

I like some of the SCAN-like pieces, but otherwise, the scale is too small and a bit flat for my tastes. I prefer pieces from the 20s, 30s and 40s mixed with a few modern pieces.

Oh, and I love the painting. I have a lot of my son's abstract artwork on the walls in my home too.

I've been an artist all of my life. Art is in the eye of the beholder not in the amount of education, experience, or price tag.

I would not want a fish over my bed. I can see it in the kitchen, but wouldn't it get greasy after awhile? Personally I don't want to see any animal carcasses in my home or places that I visit - real or not real. I would freecycle it if I were you.

I should say that I replaced my old semi-rotted, loose windows with wooden windows that have tan aluminum exterior cladding that matches the original exterior paint color. They are gorgeous and well worth the expense. White plastic or vinyl windows are an eyesore.

On windows: I replaced the windows in my 80 year old home and it really reduced the level of noise, dust, and humidity in my home. I gave the old windows to a man who was renovating a hundred year old barn.

I agree with posters about the cheap kitchen renovations to sell a house. Either do it right, or don't do it at all.

And please, please don't install cheap laminate flooring. What a turn off. Real wood = warm and welcoming. Laminate = cold, flat, hollow.

I love your place. In the 2nd shot, it looks like the furniture is floating...I guess an effect of the lighting when the shot was taken...kinda cool.
