I got a used copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking off Amazon (before the Julie-Julia craze) for something like $7. Not only does it have that beautiful vintage cover, but tucked inside there were five or six hand-typed index cards with random, delicious German recipes on them. Whether it was a gift or an oversight from the previous owner, I've been sure.

Rock! Thanks, everyone. I have kale chips in the oven right now.

It's extra-annoying because I'm also training for a marathon, so I've got to get some carbs in as well. But I like what Noadi said -- this is a good excuse to flex some new cooking muscles. Maybe I'll even learn how to grill meat properly!

Thanksgiving is all about the familiar. If I ever came home to find a turkey roulade or basil-grilled-sweet-potato canapes on the table, I'd be devastated.

I second that. Nothing makes me happier than serving up OJ and homemade chicken soup to a friend who's under the weather.

Still haven't attempted ice cream, but I'm having the last of my strawberry yogurt popsicles for breakfast. That recipe made my summer.

I got a couple dozen metal skewers for a dinner party years ago (cheap, too -- I might have got them at China Fair, come to think of it). They go in the basket with the grill tools. Besides the no-burn factor, I think it's easier to thread your kabobs with metal, too -- stuff seems to slide on easier.

Slow-cooked pork! Nice. I made exactly that few months ago and just used up my last single-serve packet to make a stir-fry. (With some farmers market green garlic, no less.) Guess it's time to break out the Crock Pot again.
