Funny, I've been pinning these kinds of treatments for a twin girls' room I'm working on. There are some really great ideas here that I haven't yet seen. I just found another idea, which is basically a floating shelf hung high above the bed with a lightweight fabric stapled to the edges below. The picture is a tad fussy for me, but the idea is a good one:

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I love all of the white used with wood. And love that it looks like a real person lives here too. Such pretty and well-considered vignettes everywhere. The one in the kitchen is my favorite.

Well, my foot's going in my mouth now, because there's not single jerky comment here. Of course there's not -- your house is awesome. So much fun to see a bit more of your house. Love what you said about that struggle between spare and collected. You really seem to pull it off, though, Leah, and find a nice balance between the two. That shot of your living room with the oval mirror, the formal lines of your couch, the rustic coffee table -- it always kills me!

Super cute twins room and a genius idea to add the door. Would love to do the same in my twins' room.

The nailhead trim on the chair is just perfect. The culture of negative criticism on Apartment Therapy is disappointing.

A really appreciate seeing a traditional home on Apartment Therapy. They've made incorporated their antiques in a fresh and young way and obviously they are treasured.

Leah -- every once in awhile I come here and do a search for your posts. I'm never disappointed. This is post has such great advice and is so apropos. I just finished painting our kitchen and our vinyl floor now looks even more offensive. I think the plan is to do a floor cloth to cover it, and now I am thinking of how to make those edges that will not be covered blend in with the floor cloth.

Sheryl Crow's house in AD almost kills me every time I see it. Perfectly neutral. Glad to see it included here, because that couch certainly doesn't read "sectional."

The room is totally fantastic and I adore your fireplace! Too bad the grasscloth is in such bad shape...

I'd style the fireplace by hanging a large round mirror above the firebox to balance the straight lines and some sort of huge branch on the left to bring in an organic feel. Stack some wood in the wood niche, add a collection of white pottery on the shelves, and you've got a killer and textural focal point in the room.

Yes to white appliances! This post makes me happy as I have both white refrigerator and stove in our rental and I actually quite like them for their simplicity and classic style.

Thanks for featuring my plant stand/lamp idea.

It's not a plant stand, but I just came across a brilliant post about turning a tripod music stand into a lamp.
