Hahaha! I remember that post quite well because I was happy to see someone finally speak out about the dreaded "v" in the pillows. Shamefully I have to admit that I too fell victim to the karate chop... like you there was no stopping it once it was in motion. Hahaha! It was neccessary what can I say... Hi-yah!

I'm reading a lot of great ideas. I think a combination of all would be the best solution. What I propose is that you take the room to the left as privacy is needed for you and your husband. You could always put a nice wooden framed sliding door with a translucent glass insert. This would help reduce noise exchange from TV to bedroom and vice versa.

For the room on the right, downsize to a twin size (after all he's in college, I'm sure he'll survive with that) and use a bookshelf type partition in front of a curtain (floor to ceiling) that can be pulled during hours of sleep. The shelves make for a better looking impression upon entry.

It could work! About that couch... sell it! 11 ft. is longer than some of the rooms you get these days. Good luck!
