Love it! Wish I had a little space where I could do something bold like this. I've been dying to put one of those Dash & Albert runners on my stairs for ages but don't know how well they hold up - especially with a big dog and two little kids who somehow manage to forget to take their shoes off. The article says: "But it's not all whimsy: that striped runner is hardwearing, space-expanding, color-unifying and dirt-defying. " Is that true? If so, I am so getting myself one of those!

Nice job!

@burnttoast: actually I think most cribs convert to full beds... the two sides become the head and footboards.

I'm thinking that you are going to have to remove all of the paint and repaint it neatly so that you get a clean uniform look. The "gel" the previous poster may be referring to is something like SOY-Gel paint remover.

The tile reminds me of sand... I would go with a nice blue that reminds me of the ocean and/or makes me think of the horizon. Add some fluffy white towels and a white shower curtain reminscent of the clouds and you've got yourself a day at the beach everytime you go to the bathroom.

The other route I would take is a warm white and add color with the towels and shower curtain.

I can't help you with this sofa but wanted to offer an alternative. We wanted to do something similar and ending up using sectional pieces to make a long sofa (My husband wanted a chaise which we added at one end, but you wouldn't have to do that). It may be a more affordable option too. Good luck in your search!

Bummer I really liked Cottage Living... I still like my Domino, but not as much as I did when I first subscribed (I've been subscribing since the very first issue). I think they've changed their focus and target a much more affluent market.

You could try a specialty window place like InnuWindow or I just did a quick google search for curved curtain rods and found some here

Good luck!

Watch BBC America's "How Clean is Your House?" Not only are the ladies very funny, but they give all sorts of tips on cleaning with basic and green products. Took me a while to figure out what bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and washing up liquid (dish soap) are. Great stuff.

I like the idea of a mix of shade, open shelves and baskets. Martha Stewart's site has a pretty cool idea.

I haven't shared a room with a baby, but I think that you might be better off with some sort of sound machine. Something like the Marpac SleepMate Sound Conditioner. It's white noise that should help muffle other sounds. I just don't see a divider providing that much sound proofing. Another thought is industrial felt like the doors shown here

Good luck

My husband and I have a golden retriever and two cats (sisters that we rescued). Despite the fur, and occasional mess (hairball anyone?) they are so worth it. Like others have commented, a lot of our decor decisions have revolved around the pets since bringing them into our lives. Slip covered sofa, items that won't highlight pet hair (our navy bordred rug has to go), and things that are easily washable. That kind of thing. But it has been so worth it. I love all my critters.

Actually, the insert, while not visually pleasing really helps with the efficiency of the fireplace. We wanted to get one for our place, but they are rather expensive and not something that we could afford at the moment. I would do what jenc suggested and hide it with a nice screen.

As for the brick. I believe you could pretty lay stone right over the brick, maybe even yourself if you can use a wet saw. Personally, I don't mind the brick. I would probably paint the mantle though and tie it in with the brick/white spiral staircase to the right that you mentioned.
