I was expecting herringbone, or worse, chevron. This is quite refreshing and lovely. Great job!

Okay...here's my opinion...please bare with me.

I collect mid century furniture and accessories. I've been doing so even before the Mad Men craze. I thought MC was cool before it was cool. :-) This is definitely NOT the first time someone has asked about painting/refinishing/modifying a beautiful piece of MC furniture or accessory on apartment therapy. Just the other day someone asked a question about painting or refinishing a beautiful piece of Broyhill Saga. They had already removed the finish and obviously knew what they were going to do before they asked AT. When the opinions started rolling in, it was the usual battle of refinish (paint/restain/etc) vs. restore. Since the person that originally asked the question had already made up their mind BEFORE posing it to AT, we detractors were called 'haters'. We are NOT haters!

Being a collector, of course I'm a member of the 'restore' team. Even though MC is not considered antique, it's still valuable to those of us that love it. It pains me to see a lovely piece that is quickly becoming 'one of a kind,' in it's original form, modified or destroyed (in the collector sense). Letting this opinion be known is not 'hating.'

For example sake, let's say that you LOVE soda. For some crazy reason the worlds soda supply is running low. Coke croaks, Sprite sinks, Dr. Pepper dies. There are very few cans or bottles left. Then, someone posts on a site like AT that they water their plants with soda. They don't care that you love soda, that you think it's an abomination to waste it. Instead of selling or giving the soda to someone that would appreciate it and cherish it, they ruin it. I know this may be a stretch, but please, understand that we love what we love. We don't 'hate' because we don't want to see what we love destroyed.

So, my opinion is to keep the piece as is, clean it up a bit and love it or sell it to someone that will do the same. There is so much other furniture out there that I'm sure you could find something that will suit your needs. Heck, do an Ikea hack if you want to paint something.

Thanks for reading!

Another beautiful piece of Saga bites the dust. I have that piece in my living room with my tv on it. There's a tear running down my cheek. You've already removed the original finish so do what you want to with it. It's worthless to a collector now.

If you do decide to change the hardware, I'll buy the handles from you. I need a couple for a rescued piece of Saga and they are extremely hard to find.

Fill the pot with water and add a little dish soap. Put it on the stove and let it boil until the bits loosen up. Scrape it with a wooden spoon to help it loosen. Just like deglazing.

Invite them up to witness how you move around the apartment and to get a sense of how you've changed your life for their sake. Print off what you've written here and give it to them to read as well. No matter what, when you have people stacked on top of each other, there's going to be noise. That's just the way it is. If you are just producing the 'normal' amount of noise, then that should be accepted by your neighbors. If you were purposely being obnoxious, that's a different story. I'm now living in a house because my last upstairs neighbor was so unwilling to listen to me when I politely asked her to be aware of a few things, such as her noisy bed and her noisier boyfriend, etc. Do your best to explain the situation. If they won't understand, then do as suggested. Block their number and just ignore them and carry on with your life.

Grand Brass has chandelier pendants. They also have 8" clear pendants that look very much like yours. There's a link. I've ordered a few things from them and love them. I'm working on redoing a few lights that I have and will be ordering from them for the projects very soon.

I'm not going to rant. I'm just going to say that you should have just sold them to someone who would appreciate their mid century appeal and bought another pair to match your decor. Now they're ruined!

These are nice chairs and they're Thonet. Absolutely they are worth the effort to bring them back. I'm not sure of the costs involved but a few money saving tips would be to find and purchase the fabric yourself. There was an infographic on AT recently regarding amounts of fabric needed for different types of chairs.
Another tip would be to take the chairs apart yourself. I can't really tell from the pictures how they are put together but I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult. I just use the idea that the less a trade has to do themselves, the less you will have to pay.
If you have ever done any sewing, you might want to tackle this project yourself. It really doesn't look to bad.

I second the biscuit and pancake idea. I grew up with Steen's always in the house. There was no such thing as maple or pancake syrup to us! I liked to mix it with peanut butter and eat it on toast or 'lite bread' with a cold glass of milk. Mmmmm...brings back memories.

I keep my little microwave on top of the fridge in front of the small useless cabinets. It's off the counter so it doesn't take up any valuable space in my small kitchen. I've had a few people comment on it's ease of use, or lack there of, but I'm 6'4" so reaching it is not a problem. I actually had it in the above-fridge cabinet at a previous apartment. I just took the cabinet door off and drilled a hole through the bottom of the cabinet for the plug.

I've never seen this before. Sounds good. If it's thicker than peanutbutter, I'd throw it in a processor with a little oil and whiz it up to a similar consistency. Then, I'd make a batch of peanutbutter cookies with it.

I've got two very similar to the one pictured. 'Farmer's totes' is what the antique/junk store called them. I used them for CD storage and what-not shelves. Right now they're stacked in the corner awaiting Craigs list. They've been useful through the years but no longer go with my decor. Great idea and it's neat to see something that I've been using for years featured!
