I was just the other day remembering the beautiful blue bottle like that (thank you, now I know the proper name!) that we had when I was growing up. We did keep change in it and it was a huge project to empty it, but it can be done without breaking the bank (har, har).

Really gorgeous. Love the avocado color especially and the way the wood tones really glow against it. Can I ask if you know anything about the lamp on the bedside table to the right? I have the same one in turquoise and absolutely adore it but have never seen another.

This is the best story ever, I so admire the family for staying put. For years living in NYC I've noticed the mylar in the windows and it was the one sign to me that people actually lived inside this massive beautiful building. Having moved out of NYC due to rising housing prices and general decline of quality of life for self-employed creative types, I raise my fist in solidarity as a general "screw you guys" to the real estate vultures vying to get their hands on this gem.

I have to agree with Randy Dandy here. As a retailer, we are up against a huge disadvantage when customers can find out the manufacturer of an item and go and get it at some discount online retailer or ebay. My policy is to order an item for a customer if I can't sell them the one in the store for some reason. Hopefully the customer will be willing to wait for the order to arrive and appreciate the personal attention given by taking the special order for them.

In any case, hope the original poster gets their lamp soon. I will actually be selling them soon as well and I can say, in person they are GORGEOUS!

Great topic!
We stayed at the Tropicana recently and were so skeeved out it wasn't even funny. We actually spent most of our time in the place contemplating the date of its demise.
The Wynn is pretty incredible, but not sure if its worth the $$. Mandalay Bay has always been my favorite among the fancy-pants spots. The Westin, just a block or so off the strip is a hidden gem I think. Quiet, with only a small casino and lovely lovely beds.

oops, sorry, realize now that Americana's not actually in LA proper.

I too understand the concept of this instant neighborhood type of development, although it seems a bit redundant in a large city like LA. There are talks about (and I suppose some examples of, although I couldn't name any offhand) developments along these lines in the Northeast. Not necessarily with such an obvious commercial/retail aspect, but more like instant small town-type living where schools, locally owned retail businesses and multi-family dwellings are all situated in an area with the focus on walkability and community. I think the concept is great, especially if they are built with an eye toward self-sustainability.
That being said, I've been to the Grove, although not Americana, and sort of cringe at the artifice. It reminds me far too much of the Forum shops in Vegas, and there's no way I would be able to live there.

This is really great. I too hope that more companies utilizing fleets of diesel vehicles consider using bio-diesel. If there's more demand for it on a large scale level, it will become more available and the resources for producing it will increase (ie: algae farms!).
We drive a bio-diesel powered mercedes and its not nearly as common on the East Coast as it is on the West, but its always awesome to smell the telltale smell of a veggie powered diesel engine.

Oh hooray! Unto This Last are friends of friends of ours and we have some early pieces of theirs that we brought back on the plane (yay for flatpack wall storage!) 6 or 7 years ago. Glad to see they're still making amazing pieces.

Ok, this is going to be the cheesiest comment in the world, but I seriously loved Hansel's loft in Zoolander. No, not a realistic living space, but the whole multi-ethnic craziness and the skate ramp were totally over-the-top teenage loft living fantasy fodder.

i have no idea if this would work, but what about using plumbing parts to create a "bracket" to feed the wires through. Like a round plate attached to the wall with an L piece attached facing down and the wire fed through and the pendants hanging below. Sorry if that's a poor description, I can picture it but don't know the technical terms for the parts.

all such great solutions to the front hall storage issue. one of these days i will figure out the perfect one for my house, until then, the old, hook on the closet door will have to suffice.

Wow, I'm so glad to hear that installing the cabinets is so easy. I've done a few lack installations to marginal success, But I'm a bit better versed now in small construction projects so I think I could probably handle it. I was at Ikea just last night daydreaming up my fantasy kitchen. Can't wait to see the finished product!
