Are you keeping the wood grain? if not, a nice two-tone cabinet with fresh white on the inside with a soft beige/gray over the wood could look soft/fresh

What a payoff! My uncle has been renovating an old 1880's mansion for years now, and his girls (there's 4!) had to deal with no heat or water for many months, they were far braver than myself!

I too have many things from my grandparents where you have to start getting creative in order to not lose the pieces!
