Try putting a small scoop of your favorite sorbet (or sherbet) into a glass of prosecco and you might just change your mind! I love it with raspberry.

I often add vegetables (frozen mixed are good, as are roasted leftovers) and cooked grains or pasta (brown rice, couscous or tiny pasta) to canned lentil soup, thinned with water or broth. I think of canned soup as a blank slate to embellish.

As you might guess, I grew up in Texas, where the question(s) was always "Want a Coke?" "What kind?" Every carbonated beverage was known as "Coke". Doesn't go over so well in Chicago, but I can't bring myself to say pop!

On Tuesday, September 6, 2011, I began the 28 day challenge at Whole Foods, which sounds very similar to this diet, only plant-based (fruit, vegetables and whole grains). I never imagined I could go without dairy, eggs or sugar, but have been doing a pretty good job of it. The first week was definitely the most difficult, and there have been a few slips along the way, but overall I've been true to the challenge. Don't know that I'll stay this restricted forever, but it's great to know that I can and actually enjoyed it.

Just made a kale salad with lemon juice, avocado, red onion and chopped almonds and a burrito made with whole wheat tortilla filled with refried beans, brown rice, grilled red onion and red pepper, diced jalepeno and avocado. The weekend is off to a great start!

My parents used a picnic table and benches in their first apartment in the 1950s to fit their budget. I'll have to tell my mother that she's a vangard of home decor!

I buy pre-shredded cheese to keep from eating chunks of it as a mindless and calorie-laden snack. I found that I am not inclined to reach into a bag of shreds for a snack, and now cheese has truly become a garnish in my life. After reading this, i will just have to toughen up and shred my own as soon as I bring it in the house. I do not need additional fiber like this!

Ha! I've been eating soup for breakfast for years. It's easy to prepare, contains multiple food groups, can be low in calories and has great variety. Especially good when leaving the house on cold mornings.

I hated b.e.p.s until I concocted a similar salad years ago using fresh peas. What a great changes from those horrible canned peas my mother made me eat for good luck every new year's day in Texas. If you think you hate them, please give this recipe a try - you may become a convert like me!

It's still pretty cold in Chicago, so I'm going to cook at pot of turkey chili and another stew of Italian sausage with yellow/red/orange peppers to have on hand for brown bag lunches and dinners.

We shared a birthday and I always felt a certain closeness to her because of it. She never looked lovelier than she did in A Place in the Sun. That scene where she and Montgomery Cliff kiss for the first time makes me melt. My condolences to her family, friends and all who loved her.
