I'm a long time lover of the swing-away opener. You can't beat a classic like that. I recently got a Tupperware can opener, which is very pricey but I do love it. If you have little people or pets or arthritis it's really great. It doesn't cut the can, it just breaks the seal from when they glued the lid on at the factory. No sharp edges at all and it's really easy to turn.

So glad someone brought up the other bed activities... it can be rather difficult to discuss them with a salesperson in a showroom!

Tupperware!
Seriously. It saved me.
The Modular Mates pantry storage containers have been so worth the investment for me.
I do live alone, but I cook a lot and I have a lot of ingredients in my pantry.

My vote is on the fisher price booster seat with tray.
It straps onto any chair, or it sits well on the floor. It's super portable, easy to clean, and really really affordable.

I use bags. Once they are frozen they can be stacked up into the most efficient use of my freezer space, which is pretty limited. I freeze nearly everything this way, even ground meats.

I don't have any letters myself but my mom has a few good ones. The one thing I have like this that I cherish is a doodle my niece drew of me when she was really little. I always used to give her my pen and notebook when we went out to eat and one day she drew this "person" who looks very mean and angry. She so proudly handed it over and exclaimed that it was a picture of me. She's 11 now and hates that I have that picture framed in my apartment but I absolutely love it.

Hey all you cheese staw makers, does anyone have a favorite recipe they would share? I've never made them before, let alone with my cookie press!

My family has one of these stories. It gets told every year at Christmas dinner.

My mother, 7 months pregnant with her second child took up my Grandmothers offer to "have Christmas dinner" at her house. So, my family (I wasn't born yet) packed up their station wagon and drove 4 hours in a blizzard in Saskatchewan on Christmas morning... to arrive at my grans house to discover that my grandmother (she's a real gem) had meant "come and MAKE Christmas dinner for the ENTIRE family", and that my grandmother hadn't even put up a tree that year!
Not wanting to ruin everyone's Christmas, my mom spent the entire day in the kitchen on her feet making a christmas FEAST.
So, the meal was laid out on table ready to be enjoyed, my dad brings in the bird places it on the table. Christmas was saved! Everyone went to sit down and my grandma says first she wants to take a picture of this beautiful meal.
She shoo's everyone out of the frame, and just as she takes the photo the table colapsed. Right down the middle!
The entire meal became a pile of mess on the dining room carpet...
My mother cried, my grandmother was upset that her carpet was ruined, my many aunts and uncles did thier best to keep my mother from going into labour. They rescued what they could and my mom said we'd never travel for Christmas again.

32 years later, we have never had another Holiday meal at Grandma's house.

I once had an oven that didn't have a light inside. After I'd moved in I was cooking one day and I went to turn it on and I couldn't find the switch, further investigations discovered that the bulb was not burnt out, but that there was so such thing in that oven! I had no idea they made ovens without lights inside of them until that day! For the rest of the time I lived there we had a flashlight on a hook next to the oven so we could shine a light in and check on our baking without always opening the door.

oh, and because it looks like you only have 1 run of countertop I'd look into replacing that too. There are some great affordable options out there.

There was a post a few days ago about stainless steel tiles that are inexpensive and easy to install. I think they would work great at covering the plastic backsplash things and look great with Grundtal shelves. That and a coat of paint and your kitchen will be looking good. If you're willing to spend a bit more $ I'd look into taking down the uppers that you have replacing them with ones that cover the whole back wall and around the corner like the ones you have now. I'd still leave the area above the sink as open shelves, but I'm sure others would suggest differently. I love open shelving in the kitchen!

Is This Backsplash Makeover Worth the Effort?

Yes, it will be a lot of work but I think you should go ahead with it. I think once it's done you'll be much happier with the look than you are with just a little section up.
It's can be really hard to invision a finished project with such a small sample, but I love the idea and I think once it doesn't look like a half finished diy project it will look great.

Plus, you've already got them, and you don't have a better idea, why not do it?
