I am doing this installation this weekend running a cable across my ceiling. However, instead of curtains I am going to hang a ceiling lamp on a long chord that I want to be able to move across the room. That way I can move the light from the tv area to the dining area whenever I need it. Thanks for the laundry list and instructions for when I go to the hardware store! I recently hung a 32" LCD TV on a mortar & lathe wall which I have read is a big no no. Molly and toggle bolts were crumbling the wall before i even got them through so I knew this would not work. My solution? I took a piece of plywood and fixed it to the wall with normal screws on each corner and a quick epoxy between the wood and the wall. I then used the provided screws with the mount and drilled them through the plywood into the wall behind. This provided added security when hanging the mount and TV. Perhaps you can create a plywood fronting for your shelves to mount on as I did for the TV mount... a long enough screw will go through the plywood, the plaster, and rest into the lathe behind it (about 4 inches in my case) Apartment Therapy New York \| Good Questions: How Can We Hang Shelves on these Delicate Walls? I am a renter of many years and have in the past researched getting renter's insurance. The problem (as I have been told by an agent) is that I am a DJ and thus have vast amounts of irreplaceable vinyl records which classify as a "collection". Insuring these against replacement costs would require "collectibles insurance" which is very pri$ey. He may have been leading me on, but it did cost considerably more than plain old renters insurance. Make sure your spoon collection goes in that "safe fireproof location"!
