I will be doing something similar with my MALM desk from Ikea but using faux leather and non-slip matting upholstered to a piece of thick cardboard so I can apply pressure and create an inlay for where the monitor and keyboard will go. If it works out I'll do the same to my bedside tables.

I have been using PostBox since version 2 and bought the license straight after the 30 days. I highly recommend it if you want an easy way to manage multiple accounts. It literally takes seconds to display new emails from 5 of my different accounts when on other clients like Live Mail it would take several agonising minutes.

If your walls are a light colour I recommend tacking the lights behind the desk across the top ridge so the light is illuminating the wall and high enough for you to see. This is what I did and it spreads the light more evenly across the work space.

For Desktop: I leave my computer on but have my screen and hard-drives turn off after a period of time. If going out I put it to sleep, however I'm not a fan of using sleep-mode over night (resume in the morning) which a lot of people do as my machine performs better during a fresh boot as it's essentially reflushing the RAM and cache and also reloads start-up apps which may have been closed in previous sessions.

For Netbook: Because I use my netbook for casual browsing multiple times a day, I'll simply close the lid after each use which puts the machine to sleep. I'll only ever shut it down completely if I'm travelling long distances or won't be using it. I'll do the same with a laptop.

"However, if you're a Windows user, you might be experiencing some big cat envy at the moment. "

Not at all. I see Windows 8 as being the real king of the jungle in this respect. Going to be an interesting new year for Microsoft for sure.

The main element that stands out with these sorts of platforms is the background.

All the fonts and layouts are the same but the one thing you can differentiate yourself with is by using a creative background.

This could be either an illustration or a high resolution DSLR image. If you can't do that that then the page will look bland and too similar to everyone else.

- desktop has to be cleared and only certain icons shown (small size) positioned vertically on the right side of the screen

- all cookies and cache need to be fully cleared from browsing history before I power down

- 5.1 surround sound speakers must be positioned at correct distances as my audio configurations are set for my seating arrangement

- Nothing unnecessary is to be left on my desk, all items are stored and organised in the desk draw

- I have to encrypt every drive I use not merely password protect it in case of theft and make several copies of each file

I have others but they are more preferences rather than OCD tendencies. =]

Most users don't use Instagram for it's filters but the photography community. A good alternative would be to use Picplz. In terms of software, I prefer Adobe Lightroom.

If no affordable ones come on the market within the next couple of years, I'm going to be saving up to get the Emperor 1510 and use my own rig and equipment. I will be using it more for a home theatre system, for design and editing. It's also perfect for programming and for viewing stock trade prices.

It is expensive, especially to ship to UK but compare that to how much people spend on owning several Apple products, gaming rig or camera equipment. It's not much considering the resale value should remain high.

I still hold onto my dream of building my own secret computer room, like seen in 'Meet the Fo**ers'. Quite simple to do, just need a house of my own. :-)

Currently I have a small Micro-ATX case so had it on my desk for a year, was great because I had access to the USB ports. Unfortunately had to move it underneath the desk for several reasons:

1) Vibration
2) Noise
3) Heat

When I build a new PC, I'll be using silent components and will have better cooling, so will most likely prop it back on the desk. I have a reasonably wide desk so space isn't a problem. Visually I think it looks better on the desk rather than below.

Wallbase.cc is a better option as you can select your resolution and filter your search. I find all my 1080p wallpapers from there.

Shaving all depends on what style you are going for. As time went on into my adult years (I'm now 23) I've learnt to use both a wet shave and an electric shaver to shape my beard. Not at the same time but within the week I'll switch it up, either because I'll feel dirty and just want a clean shave or out of random choice.

I'm also still trying to develop a moustache and thick even-layered stubble, so I'll use the electric shaver to trim the surface for a few weeks, followed by a wet shave. Seems to be working. (electric shave I found helps grow my beard quicker than wet)

I prefer the electric shaver still because I can use the trimmer attachment to create a different style with ease; my razor blade (Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium) has a trim-blade on the reverse but it's not as good.

Only additional items found on my desk apart from my surround sound speakers and monitor is my wireless mice charging dock, U shaped paper holder and my external drive. Everything else is hidden inside the desk drawers neatly organised.

"Is Mom a trendsetter in abandoning a dedicated eReading device for a tablet?".

Not in the slightest. A large portion of what technology is about is consumer choice. No one should be forced to use any one device but should have freedom to use what works best for them.

All I'm saying is wait till what Microsoft have to offer with Windows 8 and their tablet devices; depending on the pricing, I'm pretty sure it will have the same effect on PC users as the iPad did with Mac and iPhone users, in that regular computer users will feel the tablet offers them a better more integrated experience than a traditional computer.
