There is probably a fair argument to be made that this violates Title VII, among other anti-discrimination laws. In job interviews, you cannot ask a persons marital status, sexual orientation, plans to have children, all based on anti-discrimination laws at the federal, state, and local level (I'm in Chicago, which has a pretty stringent anti-discrim. ordinance).

I would imagine that a decent employment attorney could argue that getting your private Facebook info is akin to asking all sorts of these types of questions. And, if you cannot ask directly, it doesn't seem kosher to "ask" indirectly.

This strikes me as one of those: you-don't-want-to-work-for-a-company-that-would-ask-this situations.

5 Gamer Phrases to Replace "It's On Like Donkey Kong"

As a (former?) TM lawyer, I can say this: use that phrase 'til your heart's content.

Even if a registration is obtained on that phrase, it DOES NOT prevent you or anyone else from using AS a trademark and in a way that is "likely to cause confusion" as to the source of the goods or services you are peddling with the phrase.

I.e., don't sell T-shirts that say "Its On Like Donkey Kong" and you are probably good.

The Intelligensia coffe shop in my building here in Chicago (downtown) has them for sale there if you cannot wait the 90 days.

No idea if they work or not. Looks a lot like the Handpresso -- except (IIRC) that doesn't require NO2.

@Tequilla Red -- yes, yes, yes.

Like 10% taxes in the City aren't enough (not including the bottled water tax, etc. etc.).

The symbolism is fantastic, but its just that -- symbolism.

Does any of us think any differently about Atlanta or LA because they hosted the Olympics? Montreal?

Doesn't seem like a programmable thermo is controversial. If you set it like a reasonable and conservative person, you are good to go. We set on a schedule of: 60 at night. 70 betw. 6am and 8am. 60 during the day. 68 between 5:30pm and 10:30pm. Rinse, repeat.

If you set it at 74 during the day or all day and such, you don't save much. Not really controversial, just common sense.

One of the few things that i DON'T procrastinate about. That stuff FLIES out of the boxes. I HATE being packed up (which probably explains why the "natural" state is somewhat cluttered . . .

That's exactly what we did in our loft. Its not that huge (the loft or the divider) but we "back to backed" two of the steel book cases from Crate and Barrell to a Marshall Fields' Warehouse entertainment center as the room divider.

Wish I had a photo I could share . . . perhaps this evening!

Need? Nah. but v. cool to have it. I love RunKeeper Free for GPSing my runs.

New "geek"/tech workout goodies are the computer hookups for my new Concept2 rower. Not just USB attachments for the PC, but also third party software permitting rowing against folks on the internet, against, your former selves, etc. all in a neat video game format!!

The specific one's I'm looking at (I'm "Michael" the questioner) are the Eames Soft Pad chairs -- avail on Craigslist and other places from a place called "CoolChairz" dot com.

They sell a "Commodore" chair that is the knock off.

Aaaah, Firefox!!! Couldn't log in.

OK -- I'm "Michael" -- My question.

Further info:

Why: I have two closet opening areas -- each about 4 feet wide. I would like to access the areas in total -- one is an Elfa drawer area almost exactly 4 feet wide, i'd prefer to be able to open both drawers and not just one or the other, which would be the case with the standard Pax install.

The other 4' space is a writing / computer desk for my wife (this is our new baby room -- expecting in August), so I'd like a functional room for both of us when we have to be in there.

I DON'T mind, though, if one four foot space is completely shut off, while the other opening is completely open.

So, I'm not concerned if all 4 doors are covering one 4' space completely -- I'd be in the other 4' space working (and vice versa)

Cannot do Raydoor or similar -- just not in the budget.

P.S. Also put Elfa in ours -- like most of the rest of our loft. That stuff is rockstar!! Elfa Europe has some seriously cool closet doors -- just not avail in the US.

Thanks for any further comments.

I'll see if I can post some photos of the process assuming it goes through. First still need to install the Bamboo flooring -- should be this week or next.

I won't profess to be an expert knowing these things, but I'm more of an expert in knowing what I don't know.

What I DO know is that there is a pretty big difference in whether you want your machine to be "home use" / "fake espresso" or whether you want semi-pro barista quality.

My wife and I fall into the former category. We have a six or seven year old Saeco Classico -- super basic / solid / somewhat retro looking. But it is mostly designed to run w/o much thinking (e.g., its forgiving on the grind, its forgiving on the amount of coffee, and it runs on a PRESSURIZED PORTAFILTER -- which means you get "fake" crema, but that you don't have to be a barrista to make really, really, good espresso).

I didn't even know about the "fake crema" versus "real crema" until reading on "Coffee Geeks" and similar web sites, but there it is. My NON-ignorance is now NON-bliss. So, someday, I'll move up do a mondo expensive machine (in the 1k plus neighborhood) and make "real espresso."

Until then, I would VERY VERY highly recommend the Saeco Classico on looks, durability, and performance.

IIRC, we paid about $250 for it about six years ago. The "classico" looks like its been replaced by the "Aroma" and now runs for about $350.

PS, I second the comments above on the "Home Barrista" and "Coffee Geek" web sites.

Pro - tons of info. Con - tons of info.
