I'm so glad you didn't do that thing where people arrange their books by color. You just let them be books on shelves and it is lovely.

I just like the picture of the fireplace with brick around it - not fancy granite and the rest of it - just comfy brick. Very nice.

I just did what you are doing - subway tile in my shower. I replaced a shower that had left the upper wall untiled - that area eventually got wet and began to leak behind the old shower - yuck. This time I put tile up the wall and across the ceiling - and love the look and the ease of cleaning. The ceiling tile are 4x4, everything else subway. The tile is inexpensive - so go for it.

I have shelves like that and I removed the middle shelves to create a an available flat surface. Paint the area and have a piece of glass cut to fit on top, because glass easy to keep clean (you can even do something decorative under the glass). Mirror the back and keep all your heavily used items in tidy containers and on trays. The stuff you don't use as often can be put in baskets or containers on the other shelves. Mine works great and keeps the clutter off the sink.

As someone who actually heats with wood, that looks absolutely unworkable. Plus indoor storage of wood equals critters in the house - as mentioned above.
