I like the shelf brackets in the photo, (well, I like everything about the photo!) but can't seem to get to the article on the other site. I guess I have to subscribe?

Might anyone know where these (or similar) can be purchased?

Good for you for taking the classes. I am all for learning these skills. Woodworking skills are so important. Good job on creating a space that works for you, designed by you!

Purchase art from wherever it inspires you.

No matter the setting, if it speaks to you, purchase it. Obviously we all work within our own budget, however art can be equally moving weather it is 5 dollars or 5,000 dollars, hung on a piece of grid wall on the street or on a gallery wall. I think it's fine they are giving the opportunity to people to show their work, as well as you the opportunity to be exposed to different artists. Sound fair to me.

If you love it, the origin should not matter.

PS I know many street vendors/ artists personally, and what they create may sometimes be inexpensive, but I would not describe it as cheap. I have traded and purchased many items (ceramics, glasswork, paintings, textiles, you name it) all of which are of impeccable craftsmanship, unique, and quite beautiful.

Howdy, neighbor! What a beautiful house! So glad to see a Germantown beauty on here. You have done a beautiful job on your home. I live near you and know that there are so many beautiful homes (of all kinds and sizes) just waiting to be given the attention you have given to yours. It is really nice to see a mansard roof beauty that has not been gutted to within an inch of it's life and "renovated". Well done.

I agree with sassydo, your wall coverings are truly beautifully done. I wanted to ask the condition when you moved in, too! So many are in disrepair, I'd love to see some before pictures. I know your block and almost rented right around the corner a bit back. So many pretty houses, yours is stunning. Thank you for sharing.

HAHA!
Great link, home body!
I'm looking forward to the paperback collection. Wonder if they were designed with the Pantone matching system in mind!

I believe in books shelved by category, even if it a category system that only I understand. The overly tall ones of any category get culled. They belong in the tallest nook of the shelving unit simply because it is the only place they fit.

My dream fridge.
I like the color/choice of wood for your cabinets. They are beautiful.

As an aside, our "fridge in front of door" on the landing houses several plants and looks pretty cool. The landing is about 4 by 5 or so. There is a large window next to the fridge, where there are several plants on the ledge as well as a large (four or five foot tree) on a narrow plant stand. We hung a fluorescent light directly above the fridge and it allows for plenty of light for all the plants. The is a big jade and a trailing plant on the fridge, as well as a hanging fern at the window to the side of the fridge.

Amazingly, I have had two people over just this month who later said by phone "Where is your fridge??" When I tell them they walked right by it on the landing, the have said "You mean where the plants are?"

So, apparently, you can hide a fridge in plain sight. The key - use plants. Who would have thought? Your mileage may vary, but oddly, it worked for us. Totally beyond my understanding. The plants seem to dig it, too. Total investment was about 15 bucks for the light at big orange and some hardware to hang it. Already had the plants. Cheaper than cabinets or shelves if you can spare the space and like plants. You can take it all with you when you go, too.

Be still my Heart! Another "fridge in front the door"!

We have one, too! Ours is not even in the kitchen, but on the top steps in the landing at the entrance to the apartment. The door leads to one of the different apartment in the main house. I consider ours a very expensive security measure.

We are redoing the tiny galley kitchen now and have considered moving it into the main area and building some type of room divider for one side, as well as hanging an old 6 pane window from the ceiling above as a "pretend" transom window to divide the space. Still working out the details in my mind about if we should and how.

Unfortunately our fridge is way too big for our Teeny Tiny (whoops, I mean Tiny, the lower half of the Tiny: 300-600 sq. ft. category) apartment. We hope for a smaller one, so perhaps leaving ours in the landing (closer to the door out) is a better idea in the long run! I imagine it will be with us for some time, however.

Good luck with your project, I'd love to see the results when you decide on what you are going to do.

Ours was from the second, hidden on the other side of the attic door. The first step to the attic opened on hinges and revealed a chute directly to the basement, right in front of the washer and dryer. It was sealed and we lived there a couple years till my dad opened it up and added the hinges. Although a hidden room may have been cooler, it was still pretty neat as a kid.

I agree, Blandwagon. I think the color work here is pretty sophisticated and I love the way the color stories move from one to the next. I think this is an excellent example of utilizing available, local materials and putting them together in a completely personal way.
The results are beautiful and unique, and that can never be bought from a catalogue.

We have wall mounted Metro shelving in our kitchen. It is great for a small space with no other storage. Installed correctly they will hold a huge amount of weight.

Our kitchen has no traditional cabinets. There is only one very narrow pantry that can't even house a regular sized dinner plate. I just finished repairing the terrible wall behind the sink and stove where we are installing open shelves. The only reason for this choice is because of the width of the wall, and I would not be able to fit the metro shelves side by side. I would love to use metro there, but we have to go in a different direction. Instead, we are keeping the metro shelves that we have across our window and will be using them for plants. I love these shelves. They allow the light to pass thru and I like the look of them overall.

I also have a very old floor unit that is about four feet high. It has served me well for many, many years thru different apartments and studios. It has been used for clothing, plants, and art supplies. I've used it in the kitchen, my closet, outdoors on the porch, and in my art studio. It has been in the kitchen in this place for about a year, for dishes and the microwave. Just a month ago they were moved. They now house painting supplies in the studio room next to the easel. Just yesterday my partner cut plexi liners for the shelves to make them easier to work from while painting.

I love them and would easily purchase more if the opportunity came up.

Love your place! I was floored to see your little tv! Been my favorite set since my parents bought one new. I have 5 of them, and am so glad to see you using yours, too!
(Yes, I know a few tv sets is overkill, it just sorta happened that way and I can't say I am sorry it did. Love that little set.)
Looking forward to seeing your new condo, best of luck there! I'm sure your cool pieces will work just as well in your new spot!
