I totally agree. Experience gifts are the best. Some of my fondest memories of the last year included learning to make pizza and pasta noodles from scratch.

If the gift giver is low on funds, they can even offer to teach the recipient how to cook one of their own signature dishes. Cooking with friends - not just "experts" - is a great gift too!

I made a small thing of applesauce yesterday with the last apples from a farm trip. I put all of the spices in after the apples are smashed to taste. Homemade applesauce rocks. Even my 4 year old (who normally doesn't like applesauce) enjoyed it!

Personally, I like apples "as is". However, my husband and sons LOVE apple pie, so every year after we go apple picking, I bake them a pie. The original recipe came from one of my husband's former bosses who (in his opinion) made the best apple pies ever. I must admit that it really is a great pie: http://www.foodiecitymom.com/“best-apple-pie-ever”-recipe/

This looks great. My kids get a little weird about the bright green color of the zucchini when it's baked in bread. So, I just pour the bread mixture into muffin tins to bake. Then, they gobble them down!

I use my microwave to cook potatoes for recipes where they will be mashed. It offers the same flavor at 1/2 the prep time! (i.e. - for mashed potatoes: http://www.foodiecitymom.com/quick-and-easy-mashed-potatoes-recipe/
or sweet potatoes (for pies): http://www.foodiecitymom.com/not-too-sweet-sweet-potato-pie-or-yam-pie-recipe/

I love this post. No man (or woman) is an island.
I felt a similar sense of community at a pasta making class that I recently took in NYC. Cooking with others is the best...
