Thanks everyone! And yes... sometimes it feels a little ridiculous to have Vampire Diaries pop art on the wall but... I love what I love, so. ;) At least it's not a tattoo!

Thanks everyone! To answer some questions:

(1) Yes, that is Elijah & Elena from The Vampire Diaries. I'm not obsessed with many shows, but this one I am. Suffice to say I think they'd make an excellent couple, but I digress...

(2) The sofa is a leather Ikea Kramfors sectional that I recovered with one of Ikea's yellow slipcovers (after the chaise cushion developed a tear). Sadly the sofa is discontinued but I found this one about a year ago on Craigslist, and eBay and Amazon are good sources for the slipcovers, though it may take some hunting/waiting. And of course, there is Bemz.

(3) Yes, I love 1960s & 1970s style (all things psychedelic & bordering on kitsch) and yes, my shag rug looks like a purple Muppet (or Grimace) was sacrificed on the floor. I wouldn't have it any other way. My tongue is planted firmly in my cheek, and I like to have fun with my decor and push the envelope a bit. I'm glad that so many of you can appreciate it! ;)

I don't think you need to lose the sofas, but maybe the functions of the rooms needs to be finagled a bit and some of the excess shelving/tables need to go, like one of the two tables. I definitely think you should move the desk. The white couch could go on the wall where the tv stand is and move the tv stand to the door side of the room where part of the desk is. Put the wicker chair where the white couch is now, between them, but not overlapping (not like the arms of the white sofa/orange loveseat are overlapping now). That orange loveseat has so much character, I'd hate to see it go. If you have more pics, etc to share and want more ideas of a layout, feel free to email me: modachromehome@gmail.com. I love that kind of stuff.

Hmm.... I'm thinking this could very well be a possibility for us, if I could get my husband on board. It might mean some weeding out of unnecessary items in each of our own closets, but that could easily be worth it. I like the idea of wiring a light in there, too.

I love this room... perfect eclectic mix of patterns and colors! Normally I don't go for white walls, but considering the room looks pretty small and the curtains/wallpaper/mirrored closet doors take up a lot of wall real estate, it works very well. My favorite!

I love the kitchen too! I have the same chairs as your barstools for our dining table, and while I love them, they're so prone to chipping.

I love this, white walls and all. The vintage furniture you've chosen is gorgeous and I like how you've edited what you've put in here vs the showroom-look-trap that a lot of collectors/retro aficionados fall into (which is still awesome to look at, of course, but doesn't have the cozy/home/personal feel that your room does). I'd love to see more!

I am in LOVE with your home. The colors are spot-on, and the artwork is amazing (not to mention the fabulous architecture and furniture). I think I pinned just about the whole thing. Thank you for sharing!

Gorgeous! I love the palette - it's the perfect backdrop for all of your curiosities. You have excellent taste.

Thanks so so so much everybody! :)

The duvet is actually a thin comforter/bedspread from Urban Outfitters - I think it's called the Bohemian Floral. Unfortunately, it's not the most durable so we really only use it as a decorative topper after we make the bed (we have a plain comforter that we use every night that is underneath). I wish they offered it as a duvet or tapestry because it's a gorgeous, vibrant pattern.

And the wall art is a pic of Aishwarya Rai that I manipulated and had printed onto fabric through Spoonflower, and then I stapled it to a stretcher bar frame.

You could try removing the skirt if that won't leave the sleeper/mattress part visible, or consider removing the existing skirt's pleating and stapling it on straight/flat so it doesn't look ruffled. Some funky throw pillows would definitely help too - I can see some reminiscent of the wool patterned blankets and ikat prints, or a funky floral/geometric, or some neat medallions. The burnt orange upholstery would work great with a variety of modern color schemes. I can see it with a slate blue or olive or mustard or a warmer charcoal grey (or all of the above).

As for the seat cushions, maybe get the foam changed out/re-cut at an upholstery supply shop or re-wrap them in some new Dacron batting? That would plump them up a bit.

If you go the contact paper route, go to Sign Warehouse or US Cutter's websites and buy their Oracal 631 15" wide vinyl. The 10 yard roll should be sufficient. It doesn't come in wood grain but it sticks well and comes off without much incident too. It's matte in color as well. I can see some pill capsule shapes a bit larger than their decorative design in white or grey to make them look a bit more modern. Be sure to use some posterboard as a template too, as it makes the tracing process a whole lot easier.

I have a whole post here on making your own vinyl graphics.

Good luck!`

Teal. Like Valspar's La Fonda Teal, seen here, or Benjamin Moore's Blue Spa, seen here (both old bedrooms.)

I really like the vintage set. You can make them look a bit more updated by removing the skirts if you're so inclined - I did this with a similar vintage set:

sofa

loveseat

I'd had the intention on changing out the legs. But it definitely modernized them a bit!

I love this. I'm torn between the living room and the bedroom being my favorite, but those klippans look sweet in the bemz covers against the wallpaper.

I agree re: the opaque stain. My dad used it on his outdoor wood posts and wooden picnic tables and it looks great. He bought the Cabot brand and they have a good selection of colors you can use.

Well, I guess I'll be the odd woman out. I think plain jane grey on the walls with white cabinets would be a bit boring. I'm ok with the idea of white cabinets, but why not put a little color on the walls? I have the same blue tiles in my entryway and cobalt blue tiles in my shower - they are definitely challenging to work around. I'm into the greenish yellow shades with that color of blue. It pops. These are the three colors I liked best in that range, but they may be brighter than what you're looking for (though it'll give you a jumping off point to look for other shades): Valspar's Almond Puff, Valspar's Golden Avocado and Benjamin Moore's Eve Green. If you wanted a bit more of a monochromatic look with the white cabinets (and it's gorgeous with pops of yellow or fuchsia or lime accents), Benjamin Moore makes a fabulous greyed-violet-blue called Blue Nova. It's in my top 5 of favorite, versatile colors. The plus is that that color went on super easy for us, practically one coat on whitish walls. It's a little dark, but if you go white with the cabinets I don't think it would be too heavy - you'll have quite a bit of white to balance against it. It would look lovely with some butcher block countertops too. Hope this helps!

You can buy wallpaper for the ceiling that looks like ceiling tin and it can be painted. This might be a reasonable semi-temporary solution that you end up loving, and with the style of the bedroom decor in the photo, it looks like it could complement it really well.
