my husband created this geodesic dome as a playhouse for our daughter more than2 years ago out of leftover corrugated plastic from his job. at that time he sent pictures on to greg from daddytypes.com: http://daddytypes.com/2007/05/07/holy_buckminster_fuller_dad_makes_playdome_at_home.php

it's been an indoor dome until, unfortunately this summer, we rebuilt it in the backyard where age, wear, and mostly massive midwest storms took their toll on the structure. but we've gotten a lot of fun out of it thus far.

my family and i visit the evanston farmers' market every saturday this summer, and years earlier we'd go to lincoln park or downtown for their markets. were you at the Evanston market when it was just opening or closing? because in comparison I'd say Evanston market around 9am has the largest variety and more vendors than anything in the area. this market just gets to spread out more than most the condensed sites in Chicago. give it another chance if you were looking more variety.

Antwerp Belgium, mid-vacation-trip between amsterdam and paris, doing a touristy visit to some diamond-cutting shop... They had a TV on behind the jewelry counter focused on the first tower fire with a furious scroll going by. We were thinking, "wow what an accident, I wonder how everyone's reacting back home in the states." Within a minute the second tower was hit and it was like being in a spaceship looking back at the earth where you left everything you love.
The shop proprietor got tired of us standing there and knew it was hurting business, so he shut off the tv. We hustled to an electronics store for newsfeed but there was little new to hear. The train to our hotel in Brussels seemed to take years, and panic completely distorted my view of europe as if everyone was either in on it or didn't care. Thank goodness for cyber cafes. Getting home from Paris took more than forever.

true blue -- i get your point about a post not taking part of a community, which is harmful to the growth of AT. but the nature of links on this site is not only inspiration but clearly publicity and promotion. did "furniture" not pay for this promotion and therefore it's spam? did urban outfitters pay for this post and lamp link? personally, I'm offended and annoyed by the promotion of urban outfitters without acknowledgment of the company's politics and at least some nod to the conservative constructs the company invests in. if i thought i was speaking for the entire readership, i'd say they've got nice designs but delete them-they suck. but no. admittedly, that requirement for each and every provider here gets unmanageable -- urban outfitters has every right to the open market as anyone else does. so what requirement does a post have to abide by before they become "spam" that's the scourge of the site? i'd rather more links exist so people have alternatives to the most popular retailers, and have the option to vote with their money.

on the cabinet/console/vanity: absolutely lovely and exactly what I've been searching for. But it's a little pricey at $1,685. Any suggestions for something similar, but cheaper?

when buying on craigslist, i try to get 50% of original price for used but in-good-shape furniture. of course everything is relative with original price and the age. if you list 60% but note you are willing to negotiate, i think that can spark a response. hopefully.

on a different topic, i want to know how the jubilee furniture co. visit went in Carol Stream, IL. is it worth making the trip from north chicago this weekend?
