i sliced my ring finger open cleaning knives after cutting bagels for a meeting - six fun stitches there. otherwise, most of my kitchen injuries were from my time as a grill cook - french fry grease in the eye, anyone? i used to have many frybasket-shaped burns when i worked that job.

i am mostly eating a lot of fruit, salad, and nuts - things that don't need to be cooked. i did cook up some chicken sausage for sandwiches last night, but kept it pretty simple overall to avoid bursting into flames.

the snake method is a great way to not overhandle your meat. i tend to use a bit of dijon mustard in my burger seasoning and ditch the soy sauce, but otherwise this is pretty right on.

man, i could go for a burger fresh off the grill right now...with the better weather that usually accompanies it, too!

these are the best things ever invented. they do make people lose control a little bit. seriously, it's almost like you can plan for 10/pp at a cocktail party and they will STILL all go.

this is really practical information - in terms of planning ahead so that if you DO make too much food (which, if most people will err, it will be on the "too much" side), you can use it later. i am also perennially afraid of running out of food, so thinking through what i am planning to serve ahead of time helps to save me from eating thoroughly limp phyllo cups three days post-event (it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.)

i have a lifelong hatred for cauliflower, so i would not be so happy with this particular prank. though, truth be told, i would forgive almost anything served to me in a mets bowl.

i love hamantaschen, especially raspberry! can't wait to dig into these (although i know all too well the perils of hot molten raspberry filling).

breakfast is my very favorite meal of the day. this blog is awesome, and though i also frequently get up too early to imagine anything but a protein shake or a bowl of cereal, it is inspiring to take breakfast as a sacred moment everyday before stepping into the breach.

man, that sounds good. cashel blue is my favorite cheese. that and the guinness milkshake would put me in a singularly ecstatic food coma.

I particularly like Blue Apron - though it's a small store, they have a truly dizzying array of products. Their staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and will give you tastes of any counter item you are interested in.

Slightly more off the beaten path, I also like M I International Foods in Brighton Beach. A huge emporium of delights.

s in DC - I hope it's not too late for me to tell you that yes, you can do them for less time. You'll have more of a marmalade-like texture, with more chewy pieces and softer pieces. I've macerated them for as little as 18 hours, which was still very tasty. You'll see recipes on the internet for Shaker Lemon Pie which call for no maceration time at all.

Hope you enjoy the pie!
