LongIslandFoodie - good catch. I'm guessing that it is only a set of 4, as when you order directly from the manufacturer, they are $9.50 per plate: http://www.ironwoodgourmet.com/Special-Sale-Items/Canape-Tray.html
which is slightly a better deal, if it is indeed a set of 4.

Snickitysnack - I got these ages ago, so I can't say for certain. I think Crate and Barrel but it was at least 4 years ago!

Yup. About a tablespoon of mayonnaise for about 15 chopped kalamatas.

ValHalla -
I'm certainly not against good fats, and treats in my diet. I made "regular" pesto just the other day, if you've seen my posts on desserts, you'll know that I'm not a crazy fake-food diet lady.
But for everyday eating, 25 grams of fat for 4 tablespoons of sauce is a lot especially given that it's something like 40% of your RDA for fat, and I generally eat more than 4 tablespoons of it!

But, if you don't need to watch your fat intake on a daily basis, then feel free to make the full fat version!

It's so interesting to me that so many of you have a snobby association with foodie. To me,
a snobby food lover is a gourmet,
someone who likes going out to eat in fancy places is an epicure,
those who like finding hidden places a chowhound

and those who love to cook and eat food in all its many forms are foodies.

It's not perfect - it's annoyingly diminutive. But at the same time, it's a useful shorthand for "people who like to cook and eat food"

@oofs - Interesting - I'd read 90 days in home composters, and 30 days in commercial composters. Where'd you hear a year?

I actually do prefer the light beer. But friends disagree, saying that only a dark beer stands up to the chili and lime. So I offer both, but drink the dos equis!

Green Roof Guy -

Thanks for the additional caveats. I agree about people being careful. As I said, they should definitely consult a structural engineer about what their roof can support.

Jeff has had his roof garden for several years and hasn't experienced any problems, but as they say, your mileage may vary.

What do you grow on your green roof? We'd love to hear more about it!

I had the pleasure of trying these, and just had to add a quick comment. The Spears of Influence have both cumin and lime in them, adding a smoky tart note to the dirty martini. If you don't have Rick's Picks near you, I'd recommend experimenting with different flavorful pickles.

Friends of mine took their 2 year old apple picking, and I would imagine strawberries would be even easier.

But, the farm they went to had animals and hayrides, so when she was tired of apples, there were other things to entertain her.

I'd say try it, the worst that happens is that you spend a nice afternoon outside together.

I believe I read it in their press materials. Nevertheless, a quick perusal of their article archive shows that they are particularly targeting women. The current issue features a lengthy article on bra shopping. Previous issues covered women-focused articles like tampons, or women's shoes.

ack! a typo. That should be "its skinny edge."

I'm moving so that it's skinny edge does. It's all part of one movement, really, but the cut makes it so that when you twist your wrist, then the flat side of the spatula is moving up through the batter, scooping it up.

Does that make sense?

Aha, see that's the fighting spirit over authentic borscht I was talking about! I love it!

I'm betting you like the pure taste of beets more than I do, and so you don't need all of my additions. I like to really try to balance it between sweet/sour/bright/earthy.

sally599 -
not really. We washed it off quickly. It's slightly redder than normal, and that will fade over the next few weeks.

You could always chop on one of those inexpensive plastic cutting boards, but we vastly prefer the feel of wood under our knife.

I've never made borscht with pickled beets, but it sounds good! I take it you don't add any additional vinegar?

SweetTea - I saw Martha Stewart die her easter eggs by tieing a bit of lace around them.

As Sierra and I were making the eggs above, I thought they'd be great with lace on them! And I'd feel safer using wet lace in the oven than pantyhose.
