Eton mess with springtime strawberries?

I love to make a sugo (I think that's what it's called) with my leftover brisket. I saute some garlic, then add the shredded brisket, a can of crushed tomatoes, and something sharp, like olives. If you have carrots or other vegetables from the brisket, you can add those too, and some red wine. Sometimes I add some tomato paste if I have it. I cook it until it's thicker than a normal pasta sauce, but my family loves it served with pasta.

I love the genmai cha tea (one favorite brand is My Green Tea) from Uwajimaya in Seattle, and I swear it keeps me from getting colds!

Jeni's Ice Creams has a great-looking recipe for a caramelized white chocolate topping for ice cream, and I think it's used in one of the recipes that would be yummy in the fall or winter (something like banana with caramelized white chocolate freckles?).

All the options above sound delicious, and tangy items like cornichons are great with a rich meal.

On the fruit salad front, I have made the winter fruit salad from Smitten Kitchen, and people loved it. I thought it was on the sweet side, and would cut the sugar (and increase the lemon) if I made it again. I love pomegranate arils in a winter fruit salad. Smitten Kitchen also has a delicious roasted pear recipe, and you could just scatter the arils over that and call it a day.

No, I am not a troll! And I do know that corn syrup is not the same as HFCS. I just think the debates about different types of sugars - and the "rebranding" of some kinds - is interesting.

The red one, for a splash of color in the grey Seattle winter! My husband and I would load this up for our 3.5 year old and our 2 week-old, with books, nuts, computer (dad's), wipes and diapers, reading material for us, and changes of clothes.

There is a pennette recipe with meat sauce on the Food and Wine website that looks delicious, and supposed to be good for a crowd. Their macaroni and cheese with buttery bread crumbs is also a big hit with kids and adults alike.
