I'm in love with the magnetic ones, like the Norpro Magnetic Knife Bar, I guess it never occurred to me that actually seeing the knives would be creepy (then why transparent?) or that one would want to clean the insides of a complex structure when the magnet strip can just be wiped in one fell swoop. Magnet strip for the win: No contact with edges to dull them. Beautiful minimalist display. Holds knives securely. Easy for kids to put knives away safely when they unload the dishwasher. Allows cool maneuvers where you toss the knife from the other room and it magically sticks in place. Easy to clean. Affordable. No parts to break or clean or collect dirt.
