Oh and my gold Honda Accord is "Goldie Hawn Da". She's an older acting car, which is still looking GOOD (bought at Goodson Honda, and removed the 'son' from the sticker), from Japan. She's been featured in such films as The First Car Club and Wildcars. :)

If you are looking for baskets.......There are old locker baskets that are smiliar to your baskets on the wall. They aren't as large, but they have cool numbers on them. They run from $15 - $25 depending on where you find them. They are all over the place. I got mine at the Palmer Event Center in Austin during the City Wide Garage Sale.

I just finished the "college years" and with the college years came a lot of moving.....like 9 locations in 6 years. I purchased about 10 of the large (I'm talking the ones that could fit a dead body!!) blue plastic totes and have used them for the past 4 or so moves. I use the smaller blue totes for the heavier things. Last move, I got smart and used a moving company. They seemed to really like having "boxes" all the same size and I didn't have to worry about packing them too full since there were always two guys to carry things.

I wrote in sharpie marker on the outside what was inside. Each move I just put a line through the previous.

After the move, I just stack them together and slide them into a closet for the next move. I'm sure when I get a house one day I will have things I will need to store in the attic or garage where these totes will come in handy.

(Of course this style might not work for those of you who live in cities that "lack" space. I live in Texas...in a 800 sq foot 1 bedroom apartment with an patio storage closet.)

Complain. Complain. Complain. What's one night sleeping against a wall? I'm sure we all slept against a wall at some point in our life....Hell I had a day bed growing up...then there was the 2 twins in a rectangular college dorm.

As someone pointed out. It's a guest bedroom.

It's practical. Otherwise one of you would be sleeping on the floor if there was only a twin in there.

It encourages people to stay a few nights and a few nights only.

I use and old school ouija board that I got from a garage sale for $1.00. Not as heat disapating as this one, but still works none the less. My parents had the ouija board for me on road trips as a child, so I could color in the car. No we didn't used them for the ouija purpose. Just great size lap boards.

My mom used to do their ads in Houston for many years. We both love their store. That was our quick stop shopping for all birthdays and holidays. Especially for their awesome wood puzzles for the kids.

@bepsf Too funny. Very few things make me literally LOL and I did just that when I read your comment.

I love seeing the squirrels. We had one when I was growing up that frequented our backyard. We even named him (although can't remember his name), because we could tell him apart from all the other squirrels. He had a big bushy tail. :)

My parents and other family members have bird feeders that the squirrels like to get into. My uncle made a semi squirrel proof bird feeder that kept the squirrels away for about a year until those smart buggers figured it out. My Dad just throws out bird seed and deer corn on the ground detering them from getting into the bird feeder since there is readily accessable food on the deck in back. The doves and squirrels really like the deer corn.

My boss drives from San Antonio to Austin every day for work. He estimates that 8 out of every 10 drivers is on a cell phone. Also, the people making the most "traffic infractions" are also on their cell phone. Failure to signal a lane change, exceeding speed limit in excess, etc.

Sometimes I wish I could have a sign that reads "Get off your cell phone and drive" or a nice graphic of a cell phone with the nice red X through it. That way the next time I nearly get side swiped by a person coming into my lane, I can just hold up my sign. :) Yes I promise you that it is THAT bad in Austin and probably most places.

Austin is fairly stable in the current economy. One of the lower unemployment rates in the states also. And Austin is the California of Texas. Many Californians move Austin due to the similarities from their home state, but a lot cheaper cost of living. Austin is diverse (artistically), but not super diverse (as far as culture). It is a younger town with an average age in the late 20s to early 30s compared to most other places that are mid 30s to mid 40s. My Dad, who is a Texan and Conservative and who lives in Houston, refers to Austin as Yuppie-ville. :)

I second the factor to look at a city based on where your desired professions might be.

I'm with paene. I have Mr. Big Bear my teddy bear on my bed. He is just a plain brown bear with a black nose (no red bow tie...although I could make him a tie..).

Since my colors are brown, khaki, teal and coral, he works well with the scheme. :)

My parents had the same kind of fireplace that wrapped like yours. Instead of ugly black, it was ugly white marble tile.

They put in a wrapped mantle (like many are suggesting). Just something simple, I think they used Cedar and had it stained and sealed a medium brown like your floor. And then they layered limestone from top to bottom and built a hearth. It looks wonderful. They found pewter moulding to replace the brass. The limestone would definitely accent the brown wood floor.

But limestone is hard to come by in some states. Texas has an over abundance of it.

silversurfer.... I agree. I will be glad too. People are just making money off a phrase (kind of like the T-shirts with phrases). There is little "design" (even though some typography people might disagree) to some of these "pseudo philosophical posters". It is just text that even Joe Plumber could put together in his text editting software. There are so much more beautiful pieces of artwork that deserve a spot on a wall.

If so concerned with the contrast of the "modern" cutouts to
"traditional" design......What if he had mimicked the curve at the base (front) as the cut out?

One other thought:

Thinking practicality....when changing a baby, wouldn't you want to be able to get into a drawer with one hand if need be versus having to use two drawer pulls/knobs? It is a "Changing Table/Dresser". Also, what if you have the child in your arms when you are needing to get something out of the drawer.

Highly critical design people need to remember another word, functionality.

Good job Brian!

My Dad has a huge 350 pound safe that was in his closed (which is like 5 feet by 3 feet) and the door is just an inch wider than the depth. We used the shimmy method (since only one person could be in the closed)and then a piece of cardboard to get it over the carpet lip to the bedroom. Worked wonders.

And I too am a "random" rearranger. I used to rearrange like every other month. Suprisingly I've only rearranged my living room 1 time in the past 2 years and the bedroom never!!

Uh oh...this post might have determined what I'm doing tonight before bed.....

A friend of mine was needing a house/cat/dog sitter for 10 days in December (over Christmas). 4 Cats, 2 Dogs, 3000 sq ft, 60 inch plasma. Everyone was quoting her $40 a day or more for this situation. I told her I'd do it for $20 a day since she was a friend, and I just happened to be staying in town for work.

It worked out great. She supplied me with 6 bottles of wine, a 12 pack of Shiner Beer, and quite a few frozen snacks. I had a few girlfriends over one night for a girls night (of course with her permission).

I'm not much of a cat person since there is the poop to scoop and it often smells......but I found one of the COOLEST things at her house!!! It is a kitty liter box that has a roof to it (imagine dog house). You roll it to its side and all of the litter (minus the clumps) filters into a small compartment, while all of the clumps fall to the ceiling. You continue to roll it a little further (toward the roof) and then straighten it back.....and bam all of the clumps fall in this little drawer that you can pull out and empty into a plastic bag. All of the unused litter filters back into place. And if you do it once in the morning and once in the evening (yes with 4 cats) there is no smell.

I would happily house/cat/dog sit for her agian. Even if one of the dogs pooed on the carpet daily while I was at work.
