Absolutely LOVE this! It is exactly the way I feel about my home! I'm in a loving relationship with it most days, but when I feel most discontented there, is when I've dropped the relationship ball and haven't kept up my end of the bargain! :) Thanks for reminding me of this very important truth about the Havens we all call home! I was so energized by the first few days of the challenge...I tackled day 8 a couple days ago, you will never believe how much of an impact having our kitchen, clean, due cluttered and reorganized has had on our whole cooking, and dining experience. Funny how just getting rid of those mismatched, chipped coffee cups has lifted our spirits too...chipped dishes really do leave a bad taste in your mouth after all! Before every party we host I literally will sit in every conversation area and look around from the viewpoint of a guest, just to see and feel what they will experience. I am amazed at how our place looks from different spots! People truly notice the placement of items and seating arrangements and relax into clever conversations whenever I've done this practice before entertaining. Love knowing ever nook and corner of my home like the back of my hand. Day 4: Get a Fresh Perspective in Just 10 Minutes Apartment Therapy January Cure |

I use the rule I use with fashion...I stand back, look at the room then squint my eyes. Anything that overtly pops out through squinted eyes...can probably go! :) The Simple Styling Trick that Instantly Makes Any Room Look Neater |

I framed two drawings from when my boys were little. They are drawings of our house (from their eyes) One has hearts coming out of the chimney, and the other one has hearts growing as flowers in the flower beds! Even though they were drawn at different times by different children, they are strikingly similar and deliciously sweet. There's something about framed children's artwork that helps you remember beautiful snapshots from a moment in time. Trying to "please" everyone had me literally ripping my hair out for years! Now we've streamlined our celebrations. My Folks are gone, so on the 1st Saturday of December, we host "The Annual Wacky White Elephant Party." for my side of our extended family. Christmas Eve is reserved for Worship. Breakfast on Christmas Day with the In-Laws,(who live out of town and come to us) and the rest of our day is spent just enjoying each other and our grown sons. No Daughter-in-Laws or Grand Babies yet, :( but I promised myself and my boys not to be ever behave like a baby when it comes to sharing the ones I love on the holidays! What I've learned over 51 years is when you "Love Well" the people in your life the remaining 364 days of the year, it somehow all seems to work out. The Family Holiday Tap Dance |

I wouldn't care what your landlord says...I'd start by adding some drama to the walls. Paint the wall on the left as you face toward the bedroom a smoky grey Grey goes great with everything! Splurge on a huge pre-stretched canvas and a 1 quart of red paint, and sample containers of brown & black) and create some linear art to fill up the huge wall! I would go with a single cushion on the bottom, reupholstered in a very wearable fabric in a neutral color, Tan. The back cushions I'd also go with one long cushion upholstered in the same fabric. I'd add contrasting fabric panels to the openings in the sofa frame and accent it all with toss pillows in the same contrasting fabric used for the panel inserts (I'd use a bold geometric) For extra punch of wow factor, I'd laquer the frame in black..
