Oh, and you coffee will get colder quicker in a paper cup, about the same rate in foam cup, and you can't reheat an aluminum cup! Cuppow: Canning Jar Into a Travel Mug |

Mason jars are made of heavy duty glass (not Pyrex, but think that tough), a paper or foam cup will spew hot beverage all over people on a train when dropped WAY easier than a mason jar. In the unfortunate 'I dropped it at the wrong angle on concrete' incident, the glass will break into thick chunks, not delicate water glass slivers, much easier & safer to clean up. Nice, but you have to have the right tools on hand otherwise you are better off spending $150 plus whatever you can earn in those same two weekends...the clamps, power drill, and power saw would be acceptable investments if you planned more projects, but would add to storage & workspace issues for most apartment dwellers. A nice eclectic urban hippie look, but not very practical as none of those loads of textiles are outdoor fabric, and would have to be stored indoors when not in use. Chrissy's Brownstone Brooklyn Hidden Gem Small, Cool Outdoors Entry #30 |

Um, they painted everything white, waxed the floor, and hung a light...hardly shocking. I'd say they spent more time ripping out that kitchen linoleum...I would have recommended a full refinish on the floors, painting the radiator, and more appropriately scaled furniture. A big improvement nonetheless. Before & After: Gorgeous Dining Room Makeover Aesthetic Outburst |

I purchased a 15" x 20" x 1.5" Bamboo cutting board for about $12 three years ago, use it daily, & have had no warping, distortion, or other issues. I wash it clean with a scrub sponge & have oiled it with cutting board oil 3 or 4 times since purchase. The Best Cutting Board Material Cooks Illustrated |

Ha! I recently quit smoking, & used to get really irritated by people that would condescendingly lecture me on my smoking & then turn around & climb into their giant SUV with the air conditioning cranked, chock full of lawn & garden poisons, toxic cleaners, and single serve processed foods. Agree w/ last comment. I reuse foam coolers & cooling packs in which items are shipped to our home & businesses...I can't force vendors to stop using foam, but I sure can re-use them & give them to others who will! Keep Your Cool: Recycled Cardboard Cooler Boxes |

One of the reasons I hate statistics is they can say whatever you like. A $40 LED will save you $160 in e costs over the course of 25 to 32 years (provided you don't break it)? If you put $40 in a interest bearing account, you'd get a better deal, even minus the $1 every 3 years for a new standard bulb. The cost has to come down for LED to be $ smart. I'd be able to answer if the fan actually had chevrons and not zig-zags. Chevrons are a very specific shape. If you add an extra line or two to a triangle...not a triangle. Same here. Yay or Nay? Chevron Patterned Fan Blades |

Please relax everyone. The world gets more crowded every day. Don't like it? Don't breed. I know that people take flowers when they shouldn't, but really, in the greater scheme of things, how horrible is this? I have caught people plucking my flowers & herbs in several states. If they linger long enough for me to approach them, I offer more, cuttings, a jar, & how to grow tips. There was a time when there was open land, this time is no more. Most people are in small space due to budget constraints, not 'Green' leanings, not that us poor folks aren't eco-conscious. Almost every solution that has been presented has been based on $$$ to execute. I suggest you focus more strongly on the how-to's of re-purposing and less on the 'I paid extra/custom built' answers. Sorry, but my mother was a costumer at a state college where budget was king, and 'folding, draping, and stitching fabric into shape' doesn't magically make that fabric useful or re-purpose fabric, it just makes a bulkier garment/uses all of the fabric to make the same garment. Using scraps for a rag rug or patchwork quilt or garment *does* give that excess fabric a use. Using clever techniques to make yourself feel better about not being 'green' is not the same thing as *being* green! Home Skills: Zero-Waste Sewing Sew, Mama, Sew! |
