We used this concept for the front door of our little off grid cabin, we live there year round, the original room is small, 16x16 and was used for everything, kitchen, bedroom, office, bathroom (don't ask LOL), so every bit of floorspace was precious, hubby took a pair of floor to ceiling height windows, he mounted them side by side, one was fixed, the other slides open and closed. It's funny to invite people over, get them inside the cabin, close the door/window, later when it's time to leave, they walk over to the space where they entered and they see a window and can't figure out how to get out. Hubby and I live 100% off grid (we're solar), we also haul our water, so anything that saves water and other resources is a complete necessity for us. I have used this method and it works great for us, I use a bowl or small pan with some sudsy water, dip the green scrubby pad in and clean the dishes, set them aside, when I'm done cleaning, I rinse under the slowest amount of cold water I can get to come out of the faucet, then into the dish rack to dry. You can use "water crystals" in the soil to hold water but not drown the plants, water crystals swell up and hold water, releasing it later, you can get these at most garden centers, I use it in my garden. You could also use potting soil that already contain these water crystals, I believe Miracle Grow is one brand that has it. How To Make a Hanging Gutter Garden aHa! Home & Garden |
