I took this to mean a sketchy BARTENDER too, not the cleanliness of the bar. This is my BIGGEST issue at restaurant bars - the bartenders don't really know how to make anything, which is why I prefer a restaurant bar to have a drinks menu. I figure they probably all know how to make the 5 or 6 "signature" drinks on their menu, and if not can actually LOOK at the menu to figure out how it's done. DRINKS MENU people! For those of us who don't want a beer they're much appreciated. I don't want to spend $5+ on something that I have to choke down because your bartender's skills are crap. While I agree with some of what Amaranta is saying (my grandfather would have LOVED having an iphone and probably could/would have reprogrammed it to work his coffee maker or some other crazy thing), I don't think all "older" people are equal. My mom, who is in her 60's and not at all what I would consider "old", just got her first iphone and is really struggling. I think her problem is mainly that she THINKS it is harder to use than it actually is. The technology she has learned to use in her lifetime is much less intuitive than a smart phone, so I think many times she thinks that there MUST be 40 steps in between taking a photo and emailing it to someone, when in fact it's really quite easy. She feels a bit stupid about it all, and it doesn't help that "everyone else" doesn't seem to have a problem using their phones at all. 5 Ways to Make Grandma's Smartphone Smarter |

I'm another on the "no clock" side. I usually shower at night so my hair can hair-dry while I sleep, and any time I want to listen to music in the shower I just turn on my iphone and sit in in my sink - which makes the perfect amplifier. The Most Important Gadget for Your Bathroom |

I miss Publix too. Texas has stores called HEB and they're FANTASTIC. Some are practically warehouse-sized, and their prices are always really reasonable. The Best and Worst Supermarkets Consumer Reports |

My mom works for a florist and they're now charging $10 PER BALLOON because their helium supplier can no longer get helium and thinks it will be MAYBE next year before they replenish their supply. So once the flower shop's tank runs out, that's pretty much it until possibly 2013. Crazy. Best Kids Parties: Balloons My Party |

The problem with keeping magazines going these days is ad revenue, as someone said earlier. And every single one of us who read this blog (along with the hundreds of other shelter blogs) is part of the reason why Domino doesn't exist anymore. Companies no longer want to buy ad space in magazines, they want to buy advertising online, and if you have no advertising you have no magazine. Each magazine has a ratio of ads/content that they stick with every month. If they lose ad space then they lose content. Quit looking for your content online and instead buy actual MAGAZINES - that will keep them all around a lot longer. Breaking News: Condé Nast is Reviving Domino Magazine … Sort Of |

My parents have some of these and while they DO provide a decent amount of light, it DOES tend to look like a bright beam of light shining down. Sometimes we like to stand in the beam on a sunny day and pretend we're Jesus in one of those Renaissance-style paintings. It's THAT intense. But it doesn't seem to make extra heat in the room. They've also had theirs for years and haven't had any issues with UV fading. I like the idea of these "chandeliers" to diffuse the light--would be nice if they could make one that didn't hang so low and so obvious though. My son (who is 11) has the larger bedroom in our house too. Mainly because he has WAY more stuff than I have, but also because we only have one bathroom and it's in the smaller room. I don't really want guests (or myself) tramping through his disaster of a room to go to the bathroom. Help With Layout of Narrow Living Room? Good Questions |

I'm with KSOULES. I had a 3G for 2 years and left it on the charger overnight, everynight. Never noticed any changes to the battery. My son uses this phone now and doesn't have any complaints. Also, I run my phone almost all the way down every day. Not so much that it shuts off, but it DOES get to 10% before I plug it back in most of the time. I'm sure there are some sort of changes to my battery life, but not enough that I would notice. Why You Shouldn't Leave Your Cell Phone Plugged in at Night |

It pisses me off to have to click over now to be able to read posts. That's why I use Google reader. I don't mind if it's just a preview of the post, but since the revamp of the website I don't even get a picture - just the headline and a sentence or two. Certainly not enough to decide if it's something I'm really interested in enough to click over. Fresh Looks: Bright & Light Kitchens |

You could probably go to any tennis club and get their old balls. I dated a tennis pro once and he would throw all his old tennis balls over his back fence. 4 Weekend Projects We Love from Danny Seo's Upcycling |

When I go to my mom's house for the weekend the first thing I do is drag out my laptop and set up camp at their bar. It's actually on the inside of the kitchen at their house so I can hang out there and talk to whoever is in the kitchen and also be a part of whatever is going on in the livingroom (while also surfing the Internet---a luxury because I can't get Internet at my house). Since I'm planning on getting the Kivik sofa myself (treating it as a sectional and not buying the arms), I'm curious as to how the back got broken by simply trying to put on the slipcover. And they seem comfortable enough in the store, so am I missing something??? Are Pottery Barn Sofas Worth the Money? Good Questions |

Why has no one mentioned the vanity??!! Or at least, I ASSUME that is what the low portion of the countertop is supposed to be. What's the point of a vanity area if you can't pull a chair up to it and sit down? There's no place for your knees. And if that's NOT supposed to be a vanity then WTH it its purpose? I've seen this before in a bathroom - no real functionality as a vanity because of the lower cabinet, but no clear "other" purpose either. Before & After: Contemporary Bathroom Remodel |

I put those mercury glass owls on my Christmas list. I wish I had thought to look at Home Goods, but there's not one near me so the $15/$19 price isn't really all that much compared to hiking all over Dallas looking for them.
