Excellent post, Maxwell. Thanks for sharing with your readers what others (such as this bicyclist / doctor) have shared with you. Makes the world a better place when we do so!

I adore the saw & hammer pillows.
Wonderfully written, Maxwell. You don't owe anyone an explanation of your personal situation, yet a good observer who's followed you & AT would have questions arise eventually if you didn't. I think you handled this with class, tastefully & tactfully.
And I'm blown away at what you accomplished with this place as a "temporary" home.
Ursula is lucky to have you, and lucky to have such an inspiring, comfortable & loving home.
I REALLY adore the saw & hammer pillows.

Ok, I hit reply to an earlier comment, and just finished through the rest.. I see that the horseshoe has been addressed!
As for the piano - that was the next thing that spoke to me. I'm so glad you have it! I've seen several room-makeovers where pianos have disappeared in the "after," and I'm saddened! Maybe even a little maddened!
We have a big piano, and it is hard to find a place for. It doesn't fit between windows in our house, and so it is in our dining room, not where I'd prefer it. But I love it, and I love to play it, and so I was determined to make it part of our home, and I'm always happy to see people make room for their piano.. even if it's sometimes in a more awkward than desired place. Good for you!

The horseshoe was the first thing to catch my eye. If it is for good luck, they need to flip it, because it's bad luck to hang it that way, spilling the luck all out.
Love the colorful happy home!

This is very much a version of my own post about a year ago: right down to the little strainer in the photo.

In mine, however, I covered some of the questions in these comments as to How and Why this it works.

The baby is beautiful, but perhaps because I've had 5 stunning butterballs of my own I'm able to look past it. ;) I could not help but see Ray LaMontange everywhere!!
These folks are truly living a charmed life in an inspiring space.

As Dame Edith Sitwell said, "Winter is a time for comfort.. A time for home."
I love winter for this reason! We're giving all kinds of TLC to our home during these months while we're (for the most part) trapped inside it. Improvements galore.
I feel that summer & winter are like Yin & Yang.. explained that here:

First thing that caught my eye was the white pendant lights, because I have nearly identical ones in my kitchen: http://ourfunwithfive.blogspot.com/2012/04/porcelain-enamel-fixture-find.html
Love those lights! Also love all the art and wire accents. GREAT SPACE!!

This tour reminds me of the quote, "What I love most about my home is who I share it with." These happy faces & completely contented pets! Makes for a very happy, loving, fun home.
Someone asked above about the file cabinets.. The drawer units under the desk look to be from Ikea.. I have the same one. Ikea gets a lot of grief sometimes.. but I've actually had it for many years & it's sound & sturdy!

This place is GORGEOUS! I adore it.
PS: We have wide plank pine floors like this in our home in northern Minnesota. Nearly identical, but ever so slightly more rustic. Hers' are so perfect, I was wondering if they were laminate - I was actually scrutinizing the knots, looking for a repeat pattern. I'm so glad to read that they're real! We installed ours, milled locally, about 7 or 8 years ago. People always love that floor!

I agree with the line of thought in other comments here.
The trend of using "pallet" everything as accent walls & in home decor concerns me.
Pallets are more often than not treated with pesticides & what-not to keep from transporting insects, etc. I hate to see them used as headboards for beds, childrens' accent walls, and more. I happen to know a young man affected by serious led poisoning as a child.. old flaky paint is also a very serious issue.
However- that said, I have always loved the look of raw material & the overall look of these trends.
Last year my husband built this cabin - using "weathered wood" on all of the interior walls. Every time I see another pallet wall, I want to recommend a weathered wood alternative. So today I finally am! Here are some photos of an authentic, local, healthy wood look that these cheap pallet versions are attempting.. with risks to indoor air quality & health.

@SherryBinNH, I noticed the credit is at the bottom of the post.
These are all gorgeous! Great tribute to the bentwood chair!
My bentwood is my desk chair. There are probably more comfortable / ergonomic chairs out there for the desk space.. but none more charming. :)

I like the photo idea!

Our kids are a little older, but we let them go wild with life jackets & fun, too. We have always had big, wild, festive family celebrations of good food & treats, and action.
Nice to feel like there's someone on the same page! :)

Love this! This almost makes me want to have another baby. Works for any child space, though. :)
My mom found a really big hard-board covered map book, I hope to incorporate it into a kids' space.
