As you don't have a battery operated radio, rather than purchasing one, consider purchasing a wind-up radio instead. They don't cost very much (in England, where I am anyway) and as they don't require batteries if you're without power for any length of time, you won't have to worry about the batteries going flat and not having spares. There are wind-up LED torches too, which have the same benefits of not having batteries to cart about and worry over. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | How To: Prepare for Storms and Power Outages |

I have to agree about the pricing - $270 is awful, and at $98 it's still quite pricey for what it is. $50 I'd be willing to pay, but not any more than that. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Sale Alert: Hookbox |

While hiding veggies and other 'good for you' foods kids hate is all well and good, I wouldn't suggest trying it with a recipe they already love. All that will do is lead them to believe the food they do like tastes wrong and 'yucky' and they won't agree to eat it again. Mum tried it with me many years ago without luck. It's more important that a kid stick with eating the stuff they will - especially if it's something like pasta with tomato and meatball sauce (Mum would have loved it if my brother had eaten something as nutritious as that) - than get put off it and be reduced to eating very poorly. We have that oven. My mother has forbidden the glass to be lowered except when it's being cleaned. I think she is concerned it will be shattered - either by lowering it while the stove is radiating heat (our stove leaks heat like a sieve) or the hob is too hot, or by something too heavy being placed on it carelessly when it is down. So as we have no other storage for our pans they live on the hob and the glass remains up. Apartment Therapy - Look! : Stovetop Cutting Surface for Small Kitchens |

With my luck, I'd end up either a) having the books I read most on the bottom of the pile due to weight/size issues preventing them going higher up or b) my cat would push the stack over and spend ages chewing the books up. House of Cards, Nightstand of...Books? |

Put a lamp on the yellow bookcase by the window - opposite side of the stove to the other two lamps. Or scooch the couch and that side table further towards the entrance-wall, and place a floor lamp beside the couch on the porch-side. Good Questions: Great Lighting Plan for Dark Cabin? |

Books stored in a bathroom? D: I can't think it'll do them any good, even if it looks pretty. Rearrange Your Furniture: Save Money and the Earth |

I agree on the suggestion for art on the walls. A large painting/print - perhaps you could even paint something yourself to make it a personal statement? - on the wall the bed is running lengthways against, and then paint/use wallpaper on the dresser to harmonise with the art on the wall. Since yellow is your favourite colour, perhaps you could use that as the predominant colour in the artwork and on the dresser? Good Question: Small Bedroom Solutions |

We store right side up, but as they're in cupboards and also used frequently I think that's okay. If they were to be out in the open/less frequently used, then I think I'd want them bottom up. Survey: How Do You Store Your Drinking Glasses? |

You have a lovely space! I love all your lamps - though dread to think what your electricity bill must be! I think that the darker colour for the entrance way was a great decision :) East Semi-Finalist #1: Ron's Hotel "Sweet" |

Sorry, I had to vote 'no way' - it's too cluttered and the combination of the doors and the grey makes it look very aged. Surely there are better storage combinations you could employ? #12 - Jolie's Double-Duty Kitchen |

I don't, won't, cook for just me. I don't like it. I'll reheat something I've made a batch of, but I don't like to cook from scratch for just me to eat. Survey: Cooking for One |
