I just made this tonight, delicious! I added some ground turkey to make it a little more substantial, and used duck stock that I made last weekend after roasting a duck. My husband is a soup lover, so this will go into the regular rotation for sure!

No one mentioned Lemishine! We have super hard water, so I can't run my dishwasher without it. It's basically just citric acid, and non-toxic and phosphorus-free. No more etching on our glasses! And the heating element that was coated with white mineral deposits when we moved into our house is completely clean (that took about 5 wash cycles).

Spice storage has been the bane of my kitchen existence, but I recently built my own spice rack and use all sorts of different jars (including small mason jars!) to keep my spices organized. It's conveniently near the stove (but not so close that the heat will damage them), and I like being able to re-fill them with bulk-bin spices. It's so nice to be able to see and reach everything at a glance!

Count me as another NOT guilty of the joy of not cooking. I don't have a KitchenAid, but I do have some good knives that are used and honed every day. I don't purchase many gadgets, and the ones we do have are well used. I can't take my slow cooker to potlucks any more because it's too battered and stained, but we use it every week. I did just buy a Lodge cast iron wok, and I have no idea where to store it, but it doesn't seem to matter since I've used it probably 5 of the last 7 days.

Something about winter makes me want to eat lots of starches, but combining them with vegetables makes me feel a little more virtuous. Currently making regular appearances:
-Stuffed Roasted Acorn squash (a simple wild rice stuffing with shredded carrots, onions, celery, toasted pecans, dried cranberries)
-Dutch stamppot (kale or other greens cooked with peeled, diced potatoes and mashed together)
-Baked mac & cheese with a layer of spinach in the middle (not vegan, sorry! but so delicious!)

PB&J is my go-to non-dinner dinner, with a glass of milk, of course. I made the mistake of using marmalade the last time I did this. Marmalade and peanut butter do not taste good together at all. Who knew?

Yay for all the San Diego people chiming in! I love them too, although I actually prefer carnitas to carne asada. And they really should have lots of melty cheddar in addition to the salsa and guacamole.

Juice them! My aunt and cousin can grape juice every year. I'm not even a big juice fan, but it is amazing.

I always make extra lasagna for freezing, it does really well. I usually heat and eat within two months, so there's no chance of freezer burn.

These enchiladas also freeze well. I figure if I'm going to go to all the trouble, I might as well get a few meals out of it, so I double it. It's not really any more work. It's such a treat to pull something tasty and homemade out of the freezer after a long day at work.

I don't remember which was first, but I bought two in college, The Silver Palette Cookbook, and The Moosewood Cookbook. I really learned to appreciate and make things I had never thought of using The Silver Palette Cookbook. I credit it for really teaching me to be a cook and go beyond the basics. Many a Sunday dinner party came from it's pages. It's falling apart, but I still have it and love many of the recipes to this day.

I was so happy to see these recently! I make decent pie crust, but I don't enjoy doing it, but it doesn't seem worth it to go to the trouble of making a delicious filling only to put it in a mediocre pre-made crust. I used the TJ's crusts for a wonderful nectarine-raspberry pie. It's been a month, and my husband is still talking about that pie. I need to make it again while they are still in season!

It was actually a dark metal one from ikea a few years ago. I just spray painted it :o)

I'm the owner of the porch above. The wellies are indeed often used. I wear them in the summer when I clean out the chicken coop and they have also been a part of my beekeeping outfit, and in the winter when it's rainy and I have to do anything in the yard, I slip them on almost every day.
As for the rug, it's a plastic outdoor rug I picked up recently at World Market, so rain or shine, it's pretty perfect for my porch, which, by the way, is also covered.
When did AT readers become so judge-y judgmental about such innocuous things? Sheesh.

I also saw the beehive one at Pier One recently and was really tempted to get it. It was $39.95 there too.

I love grilling thick slices of eggplant and zucchini. Just toss them with olive oil and sea salt. Portobello mushrooms would also be good.

My favorite potato salad is this Spanish version. In fact, I'm making it tonight for a bbq lunch tomorrow at work.

I've been adding one more ingredient: crumbled meringues (the vanilla meringue cookies from Trader Joe's are perfect), and making Eton Mess. I'm totally addicted.
