Thirding the comments about the art.

My first thought when I saw this post was: "I couldn't care less about the fans, but I LOVE that painting!!" ...And want to know more about it.

Looks quite Anthropologie-esque to me.
(I mean the stand, not the giraffe).

CozyLittleCave, the blue lamp *shade* is from a British company called Lush Designs:
http://www.lushlampshades.co.uk/index.php?page=27

(I traced back the image from this post, and found their site).

As for the lamp itself... while I'm not sure where this particular one is from, I recall Target selling something similar:
http://www.target.com/29-Ceramic-Table-Lamp-Blue/dp/B002S6GBMA/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_1

Granted, it's not exactly the same lamp, and it's a bit pricey for Target, but for lack of a closer match off the top of my head...

The story also says that "an apartment with a roommate" typically refers to up to 10 people squeezed into a tiny studio on the rundown outskirts of town, a long commute away from one's place of work. (Though it doesn't specifically say that this was also the case for that woman's previous rental).

Given that, I would also appreciated the privacy of the "pod". Besides, the "pod" reminds me of a tree house I used to have a kid. Dreamed of living forever in a tiny place like that.

For the record, I would take a "pod" in my favorite part of Manhattan over paying three times more for sharing a studio with roommates on the farthest outskirts of the Bronx any time.

Diogenes, the Greek philosopher, lived in a barrel, btw. I think it's the products of a McMansion nation making condescending comments here, not that renter, who may be missing something.

It's a nice apartment (though not my style). But somehow I can't take seriously 900-sq-feet entries in a "small cool" contest. That is, unless the place serves a bunch of other, additional functions - like an art studio, in addition to living quarters, for instance, or a majorly equipped home office, where somebody actually does most of their work... and features some inventive ways of fitting all those additional functions into that space.

I guess it's because I live in a 750 sq.ft. apartment, and actually consider it a pretty large place!

That said, it's always interesting to see other people's apartments, thanks for sharing.

My parents did that when I was little... Just sweeping the snow off the rug isn't enough (it would get very wet when you bring it back indoors). To really get snow particles out of the fibers, you need to hang the rug again after sweeping the snow, and *beat* the rug with your broomstick... or a tree branch, or something similar. Just hammer it as hard as you can - unless it's a very delicate or low-quality rug, I guess - and then take it back home. It would still get a little moist, but should dry within an hour or so.
And rugs do smell very nice after this kind of cleaning)) :-)

You need lots of dry, crisp and clean snow, though. Sadly, we don't get that in NYC...

Maybe I should shape some fir boughs and cone garlands into a Star of David and spray-paint it silver...
(Just kidding).

This is another Jew's opinion, and this particular Jew has to disagree with "sholtz". (It's also just a personal opinion, stemming from my own personal background, and you certainly don't have to agree with me either):

When I was little, I lived in Moscow, Russia, where nobody had *Christmas* trees, but we all had *New Year* trees - Jews and non-Jews alike. The Soviet Union being what it was, the holiday wasn't too commercial, either. It was more about New Year shows for kids, and concerts and parties for grown-ups. And I still think that a decorated fir tree for (western) New Year is very nice.

That said, I probably still wouldn't put that particular wreath on my door. But I might put a wreath - a New Year wreath - on my door, and a New Year tree in my living room. I just would decorate it in more Hanukkah colors, so to speak, to distinguish it from other people's Christmas decorations. To make it short: a similar wreath with silver-painted pine cones and a blue ribbon might find a place on my door. Why not? I like conifers, and I like the color blue, and I certainly like New Year celebrations!

#1 and #3 are terrific. Except for the art in 1, I would have thought it was "now". (But then, I'm no expert). Love the first picture. I could SO live there. ...Oh, well, but a girl can dream, right?
#2 is nice, just not my thang.
#4... I'd better not say anything.

These look more like carnations than mums to me.
Very pretty. (And I hate artificial flowers, as a rule. But these are nice).

I like the Tongue in Cheek blog. She lives in the south of France, and her blog has a lot of highly inspirational pix of beautiful decor.

And here is a picture of her own home. (It's not of a bedroom, but you could search her blog for bedroom decor pix).

I like it much better than 99 out of 100 real beds I see. But that's just me. I lived in Japan when I was in my teens, and fell in love forever...

The floors do need to be very clean, of course. But I consider that an added benefit.

To all the commenters who doubt this is their main home, just for the record:

When I was a kid, my parents, by brother and I lived in a 40 sq. meters apartment in Eastern Europe. That was typical; that was a common size of an apartment for a family of four. One can say that people had to do without a lot of basic necessities living in the Communist bloc, and while this is certainly true, and while I remember wishing for Levi's jeans and good sneakers when I was little, we were all perfectly happy with our apartment. Now, looking back at it, I'm really starting to appreciate the ingenuity my parents put into making the apartment not only livable, but also lovely.

And we weren't even in Paris, and the outside wasn't nearly as nice.

Oh, and my parents "entertained", too - sometimes having a dozen people over for dinner. They just folded up their bed and unfolded a large table in the middle of the "living room".

I think I'm almost offended by the comments saying that this is cruel for children. A 40-sw-mt apartment is perfectly fine - it's the love and care and ingenuity you put into making the place work that really matters.

I lived in Japan for a while. I think a bed mattress on the floor, without any kind of frame, is perfectly normal, no? Just joking. But that's the way of sleeping that feels most comfortable and peaceful to me.

I have a bed frame now - or rather my fiance does, and he bought it before we even met - and I don't like it at all.

I guess either the fiance or the bed frame will just have to go...

I would prefer something modern and industrial, to play up the contrast with the (beautiful, I have to say) chairs.

Something vaguely inspired by these two pictures, though they don't show the particular type of lamp I have in mind:

This post reminds me of another, personal, issue that's been giving me some grief lately...

I used to live in Japan, Denmark and Italy, and my work took me to Central Asia, Afghanistan and the Middle East. And I never brought a single decor item home. There were so many beautiful things that I saw, or touched, or held in my hands, and which I would so love to have in my home now. But I didn't really give much thought to decor back then - and I don't have any of those items in my home now. So sad.

I think the seller of that Mac is hinting that a gold-plated Mac found in a night-club may contain some very interesting files on its hard drive. And by saying that the battery is dead and the seller doesn't have a charger, the sellers are suggesting that they are not privy to the supposedly sensitive or confidential info. (When in fact they may well have taken a good, long look at it).

Then again, if the Mac does not contain any interesting data, then the sellers never said that it did, so they can't be accused of failing to deliver.
