I love the theme, and it's very well executed... but does it bug anyone else that "marshmallows" is misspelled?

Nerd Alert!: I love the show Mythbusters and one day they did a show on how to cool down beer the fastest. The "myth" was that you could bury beer under sand and then douse the sand with gasoline, light it on fire, and the fire would pull the heat out of the beer cans, instantly chilling them. (Nope, it totally didn't work). But what DID work, and they found it to be the best quick chilling method, is to submerge the beer or wine in icy SALT water. Salt is the key, regular ice water didn't chill the beer nearly as fast. Try it, it works FAST.

This makes me think... if you painted a wall with magnetic paint, you could attach the magnets to the back of the frames and then just sandwich the art between the frame and the wall. AND you could switch the layout of the frames all the time without adding more holes in the wall.

A New Way to Display Kids' Art
How To

My boys are 2 and 5, so they haven't exactly "grown out" of anything yet... but I DO notice that they keep going back to the timeless toys. My parents tend to buy them the latest fad, plastic, battery-operated thing (even though I've asked nicely for basic toys). The things my kids play with a lot, that we will be hanging onto for kid visitors and grandchildren, are:
1. All the Legos (little ones and Duplos)
2. The adorable wooden animals from Holztiger
3. Melissa and Doug wooden blocks*
*OH-and a quick suggestion for the blocks: My son's preschool had battery-operated tealights in the bin with the blocks and they kids use the tealights inside their block structures. It looks super cool and the kids love it, especially if you turn off the room lights and let their structure glow!

What Do You Do With Collections When Tastes Change?

Awesome!! Thank you thank you for this post! I'm planning a Harry Potter theme party for my son's upcoming 6th birthday. You're right though-there's so much coolness in these books it's hard to choose what to focus on. I really love the idea of having the kids travel around to different classes and complete fun little tasks-6 year old boys definitely need to have something to occupy them for part of the time or everything resorts to a big sword (wand?) fight. :) Thanks for the awesome inspiration!

I have an awesome little book I bought on Amazon called "One Line a Day: A Five Year Memory Book" (I don't work for them or anything, I just really like it!). It's a great way to remember some of the little things, and it's easy to remember to write just one sentence every day. I like the note card idea but in my house the cards would get played with and end up all over the place.

Our older son is named Nicolai, which we got from an Orson Scott Card novel. We love the name, and so does he (he's five, so he doesn't really take into consideration what other people think yet!). I have a feeling as he gets older he might decide to go with Nick, which is just fine by me.

Also, if you're with a group of adults, several breweries give pretty cool tours. The one in Boston (I think it's Sam Adams??) gives an awesome tour where you can see them bottling the beer and at the end you get to try tons of different beers and even the really rare ones (like the triple bock). I'm not a beer person, but my husband and I went with some out of town friends and we all enjoyed it.

I second the Ben and Jerry's factory tour in Vermont. Not too long, but definitely worth it. Outside, in the BEAUTIFUL rolling countryside, they have a small "graveyard" with headstones saying all the names of the flavors they've discontinued. It's pretty cute.

OH, and my oldest used to love this Melissa and Doug latches board, too. Although I think it may have helped him learn to undo all of our childproof locks. :)

Toddler-Friendly Mechanical Toys?
Good Questions

I have two VERY mechanically-inclined, building-obsessed boys. My two year old loves those little wind up walking toys (they break pretty easily, so don't spend more than a couple dollars on them). For something longer-term, both of my kids love this gear toy we have - the gears stick to a magnetic board (but the magnets aren't small at all, my 2 year old still tries to eat everything) and you can change them around and then turn it on and see the gears move. http://www.amazon.com/Tomy-6526-Gearation/dp/B00000ISEH/ref=sr_1_10?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1310495043&sr=1-10

Also, the pin could be "gunked" up with old lubricant, so it might help to use some steal wool, brillo pad, fine sand paper, etc to give the pin a quick scrub before you lubricate.

How To Silence a Squeaky Door Naturally

I've used baking soda to get urine smell out of my couch (due to a potty training toddler), and it worked very well. I just COATED the couch in baking soda before bed and in the morning used the vacuum attachment to clean it off. I was surprised at how all of the baking soda came out cleanly, I thought it would stick in the fibers. It completely took the smell away and made the couch look cleaner, too. For a really "vintage-y" smell, you may want to leave the baking soda on longer, or do two rounds. And make sure to get it in every nook and cranny. The good thing is that it is totally safe for kids/pets (safe to eat even, obviously), so if you do accidentally leave some on there, it isn't dangerous in a baby's room. Good luck with your awesome find! Go, Craigslist!!

And P.S. I did a little online research about Febreze b/c I was wondering about it's chemical usage and found that it (supposedly) contains VOCs: Take this info for what it;s worth, knowing that not everything on the net is true :)
"Febreze, along with most other commercial air fresheners are in no way environmentally friendly or "green". They contain volatile organic compounds (VOC's) called 1,4 dichlorobenzene(1,4 DCB) which cause soil, groundwater, as well as air pollution. Scariest of all, this 1,4 DCB was found to be a carcinogen, which is something that causes cancer, and being around this product too much can also cause lung damage. So not only is it bad for the environment, it is also bad for your health.
