I once saw a photo (either on here or houzz I think) of a walk in closet/dressing room done in black and white stripes. I've been trying to relocate that pic as I want to do something similar...but I can't find it anywhere. I was hoping it would be in this round up.

I know it's "trendy" and some people are sick of it, but the clear/lucite furniture really is great for small spaces because it doens't clutter up the place. I use clear dining chairs and not only does it make the dining space seem larger, but then you're able to see all the beautiful details of the dining table that I splurged on.

Also, I find that if you keep your area rugs in the same tone as the floor (ie: dark floors w/ dark carpets and vice versa), it doesnt chop your space up as much and looks more unified and bigger.

I'd like to see some bright and light using COLOR on the walls. These all white kitchens are kinda boring in my opinion.

I think turquoise would look amazing against all that neutral...and would work with the red that you want to bring. Since everyone has already mentioned a rug, I'd get a nice throw blanket for the couch to break up the see of brown (maybe in a graphic even). Fresh flowers would add a pop of color too.

I absolutely love this! Really charming. That Chevron foyer area is to die for!!! Who needs more than 625 sq feet when you can make something so lovely out of the space.

Very cute, but i'd never replace a real tree with it. But for those who can't have a real tree, or don't want one, I get it. Cute alternative.

I think surface cleaning the kitchen is something many people need to do everyday, so its a little unrealistic to list that every few days. If you're making dinner almost every night, you're likely cleaning the kitchen every night.

Assuming you're planning to put up shades/blinds, you can find 2 singles (for the sides) and a double (for the middle) that match. I had to do that. At first I was adamant about having one big piece, but that turns into a custom job which can be quite expensive. That said, if you own the place and plan to stay for awhile, it might not be a bad idea. Otherwise, I wouldn't invest that kind of money. Also, if you're worried about it looking too choppy, one set of curtain across all 3 windows will help bring the whole thing together. I would start the curtains from the ceiling to add height, but that's just me :) Also, these days you can find pretty decent shades/fabric blinds at the big home goods stores. They've come a pretty long way since the 80's. Good luck!

So pretty! I painted my foyer a dark blue/grey and I find that it makes the rest of the space beyond the foyer look bigger.

OH man, I paid full price for owl at West Elm! HomeGoods is such a hike from where I am in the city, but probably worth it as I always do well there. I went a little mercury glass crazy this holiday season. Home Decorators had some really pretty mercury glass ornaments (icicles, owls, etc.). I also love to light a TON of mercury glass votive holders at once for a dramatic effect.

As I mentioned above, I only use them in places that you won't see the bulb and that isnt an area I'm in for long periods of time. However, I made the mistake of buying "Daylight" CFL's recently and mother of God, I'm not sure what planet this kind of daylight exists on, but it certainly isn't Earth. It was horrifying. I am hoarding for all my chandeliers....multiple type "G"'s!

Yep, same here. I'm green in many other ways, but if the bulb is visible, I won't do the CFL's. They're an eye sore.

I use a tie rack (this kind: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=14387757) to hang all my necklaces. It also works for bracelets, scarves, etc. I'm going on my second one at this point. You could probably spray paint it if it will be showing and you wanted to give it some character, but mine is inside a closet so I didn't care.

I vote for painting the walls navy- no stripe. We did our bathroom a dark pewter color and there's enough white tile that it keeps the space from looking too cavelike. Let the shower curtain and bath mat be the pattern.

Tx for the tips! For lights that stay cool, LED lights are best and sold in many stores now. They are much less of a fire hazard and also use less energy!

Glad to see this. I bought a pretty blue/green peacock feather wreath last year and ended up keeping it up WAYYYY after the holiday season. I also put it up in October this year before any other holiday decorations. I wasn't sure if this was acceptable, but it's my apartment, so I did it anyway :)

Love this so much!! It does not feel cold at all to me. The fresh flowers, fruits, plants, etc. warm it up in my opinion. The moldings in this place are to die for!! That plus the fireplace keep it from feeling TOO modern/austere with all the grey and white. Well done!!
