The IKEA in Denver finally opens next week! I'm so ridiculously excited to finally be able to experience what the rest of the country has for years. Woo!

I change both of my kids (1 and 3) on the floor 99.9% of the time. It's just easiest, especially once they become mobile. I have a handy diaper basket filled with supplies I can move from room to room and go to where they are playing. Both kids had changing pads on their dressers, but I think I've used my daughter's a grand total of once. We aren't in her room much during the day, so I can't see lugging her upstairs just to change her. Bottom line is that you certainly don't need a dedicated space/table.

We have a beautiful square granite coffee table that we stored away when our son was born 3 years ago. Between the sharp corners and the hard top, there was no way I felt he'd be safe around it. Turns out he's fairly cautious, but now we have a crawling baby who isn't too cautious. So it will remain in storage for a few more years. Small price to pay for safety, I think.

We replaced it with a soft-sided storage ottoman from Target that now serves as toy storage and a table of sorts. Sure, it's not as attractive, but at least I know the kids are safe.

My 3 year old son just adores his Angel Dear monkey. And more than 2 years later, it still looks great. It's easy to wash and wears well. I just bought the pink monkey for my infant daughter and hope she loves it as much. And I agree to buy in pairs--you never know when it might get lost, or if nothing else, you'll have a second for when it's in the wash. My son still hasn't figure out that I have two. :)

I just contacted an etsy seller for a silhouette of my son last night! I think my mom will love it, and when my daughter is older, I'll have one made of her, too.

Non-Cheesy Gifts for Grandparents

Like this post mentions, I recently tried to hire a designer just to help with paint colors and some accessories. Someone to help me tie my place together. As much as I enjoy it, with an infant and toddler, I am just too tired and busy to do the necessary legwork to update my house. However, she was terrible! She was young and inexperienced and intimidated by my kids. She was completely unhelpful. She even forgot to bring her paint wheel on her second visit here. She really suggested nothing I hadn't thought of on my own. Because of this, I'm tempted to try a more "full-service" option, hoping to get some actual advice and get the process going.

Aw, so pretty! I know it's cliche, but I adore pink in a girl's room. I just finished my infant daughter's room and it's very pink and girly. I'm glad to see I'm not alone. :)

When we lived in MI, we used to love to go to the cider mill for cider, apples, and fresh donuts. But we don't have them here in CO, so we make due with Fall hikes and pumpkin carving.

We did the exact same treatment in our master bedroom in our old condo. Love it, although it was quite a bit of work, especially with bumpy walls. But when we went to sell, the buyer asked that we repaint before she would sign. I guess not everyone appreciates the design.

Yep, fade on violet. I'm in South Metro and the IKEA will be just a few miles from my house. Woo! I grew up in Detroit, where there was no IKEA until AFTER I moved to Denver, so this will be my first time living near one. We actually drove to the Chicago location years ago from MI and loaded up our car. No more of that! :)

Geesh, does every single book a kid owns have to have perfect educational value? After the Goodnight City series post, it seems I'm the only one who has quite a few books that are just fun and without gorgeous illustrations or morals or educational takeaway. Some of my son's current favorites are "throw aways" I picked up in the Target dollar bin. If he loves them, then so do I. We have plenty of classics and more "important" books as well, but not everyone's library can contain all perfect books.

To respond to this particular question, pop-up books are fun for kids (and adults) and that can be valuable.

Pop-Up Books: Valuable Reading or Pointless Fun?

Wow, harsh criticisms! We have Goodnight Denver and my son loves it. I never once actually considered it was supposed to seriously compare (except on the "surface") to the classic Goodnight Moon, but just teach children more about the city they live in (or like to visit). I don't care that it doesn't rhyme and neither does my son. I guess people take their fun books a bit more seriously than we do at my house. We just like that it introduces kids to their surroundings, and if my son likes it, that is good with me.
