I have to say, that's one of the most delightful first paragraphs I've ever read. How could I not continue? And now I'm inspired to make better use of the wall space in my little kitchen. Why leave an inch bare when you can hang something in it?

Can I come over for a cup of coffee in that big, white kitchen?

I missed your earlier vacation posts--very glad to have found them.

Funny, just recently I watched a Frontline documentary on the beginnings of Christianity, so some of the spots you visited have been on my mind in that context. The stripes really liven the room. It's like the graphic effect of a nice striped rug--but on the walls!

Love the casement windows.

So many details to admire...that simple fireplace with the plank mantle...which echoes the wooden blinds hung high above the windows (would like to see a photo with the blinds down). What color did you use on the walls? So soft. Just right with the beautiful dark floors.

I love the way you opened the space, including the vertical space. Excellent decision. And that chandelier -- what a find!
