Definitely go the whole hog and paint all the walls black - I started with a 'feature wall' in my bedroom and then, when I had the ok from the other half, did the whole room. It's so much cooler now, with all the bright colours popping against it. http://gettingitswoonworthy.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/the-art-of-pose-photo-shoot-and-bedroom.html

Love Abigail Ahern's style too, definitely one of my favourite British Designers!

Bold & Beautiful Black Walls

I hesitated painting my bedroom black for such a long time. When I finally took the plunge (it's just paint for goodness sake), I actually loved it and wondered why the heck I didn't do it long ago. Brilliant article, I couldn't agree more. The more fearless, the more interesting the space.

I'm in England as well and we've got window cleaners that do ours on the outside for £5 and they come every other week. It's definitely a worthwhile investment as it wouldn't happen otherwise! Perhaps someone needs to fill the US gap in the market ;)

Lovely, so intimate and cool. I painted my bedroom black and love the look...

There is still much to do to complete it but I love the look of warm wood against it. These are gorgeous examples of how to do black right!

Such a sweet and cozy space! Love it's nod to mid century with a very delicate touch. But that pup, oh my god. I wanna be the dog's BFF.

As shocking as it might seem for some, I've dropped writing Christmas cards from my 'must-do' list. As nice as it is to receive a card in the post, most of my friends and family are on Facebook and I already know what's going on in their lives. It just feels like a formality that's no longer in synch with our lives. I failed to do it last year and I felt terrible until I realised that no one even noticed. This year, it was a conscious decision and I can't tell you how relieved I am that it's no longer a task that stresses me out! I also do all my shopping via the internet from mid November and by the first week in December, it's finished! Oh the relief! ;) They are all wrapped and under the tree already while my mates are still fighting the crowds! Works for me!

How To Actually Enjoy the Holidays

Comments are a bit harsh but unfortunately I see a lot of snark around AT. Agree some of the shots were a bit...um. Weird.

However, that said, I think for someone who has never been 'into' interiors like so many of us are, he's done a fine job of making his space completely his own. I know too many guys who really don't care and it shows. I love the artwork in the lounge but agree, please lower them to eye level - they need to be appreciated.

And I love the Cole & Son wallpaper - probably a bit biased as I've used it in my own lounge as well and I love seeing it used in completely and utterly different spaces. It just works so well as a jumping off point.

Ok, so not everything in John's space is 'inspired' but I think he's made a pretty damn good start and I'd love to see how the space evolves as his tastes mature and develop. Well done, John. You go on and enjoy that PB&J and don't let the haters get ya down!

Just had to say that both me and my boyfriend LOVE THIS!! Star Wars Geeky Perfection and like so many others have said - perfect balance between 'theme' and 'class'. We are trying for a baby now and I'm a little scared that he'll be insisting on duplicating this room (not that I'd REALLY mind)!

Seriously well done!!

I love the muted colour pallette and the mixed metals. This isn't a style that I'd necessarily emulate in my own home but it certainly looks pretty.

I love the industrial styling along with this look - it just really works well. That macrame divider is fabulous and I honestly never thought I'd say that about macrame, being old enough to remember it first time around!

Like those you featured and other commenters, my biggest splurge was a custom made velvet chesterfield sofa. It was something I waited for 2 years to purchase and didn't scrimp on anything (feather wrapped cushions? Yes please). It's been totally worth it and it's transformed my living room and it's wonderfully comfortable and the quality is really quite stunning.

There's nothing else in my place that even comes close to that indulgence which is fine - I look for bargains, reuse & repurpose where I can, thrift, ebay etc - but having something really special like that just makes me feel a bit more like a grown up ;) (even if I am in my 30s *cough*).
