Good for you to have you deck facing southwest! I wish my deck was facing that direction, instead my garden faces NW.
I have great success with greens like lettuce, mustard, cilantro and others, but not as much with tomatoes, and other summer veggies like watermelon and melon.

amazing what one can do with little space. I have 2 raised beds on my small deck, which shrinks the space, but yields awesome growing goodies...
