Wow what a heated conversation! Growing up, we weren't allowed to eat Kraft cheese (nor were we allowed Wonderbread in the house - but that's another story). My best friend who lived next door always had it and it took all the control my eight-year-old self could muster not to eat the whole package at once whenever I was over. Now as an adult, we buy it every now and then specifically for the purposes listed above - nostalgia, comfort food, and that awesome melty factor that transcends!

Oh wow, I thought my grandmother was the only one who used the FHB! We use it all the time in my family ... we even sometimes have to use it just for me ... birdie_dc Hold Back ... heh heh heh.

I was there a little over two years ago ... amazing market! I think I ate my weight in takoyaki.

Here is a photo I took from the same market of some gorgeous pickled vegetables:

I made this last night and it was so amazing. I think next time I want to up the pepper a bit (I might have gone a bit crazy with the sea salt), and I did it with the lid off the whole time. I basted the bird probably four or five times throughout the cooking and seriously the flavor was incredible. Definitely going to try it again with the lid on soon! SO EASY and so good!

I love Jeni's - was there last Friday during a visit home and had a KILLER ice cream sundae - but Influenza Ice Cream? Couldn't she have named it something a little more ... healthy-sounding? I can honestly say it's the first time I've ever been turned off by anything at Jeni's!

I loved this episode - Carla can COOK. She's certainly peaking at the right time, that's for sure. And having Toby "Awful Eyewear" Young on the show made me appreciate Gail Simmons so much more. It felt like Emeril was giving an eulogy, the way he pontificated on Carla's winning dishes. Good grief, Emeril, she won. Have a smile or something. Hootie hoo!

Right after the show ended last night, I had two thoughts. I can cook a steak and salad just as well as Leah ... but why in the world is, like, she, like, on, like, the show, like, still? Every time the judges ask her a question, it's "You know, like, I just like, wanted to like, do something ... simple???" Gargh!

And Toby Young oh my god why did you wear those glasses. KILLING ME.

I'm wondering if there are any trees that would do well without full sun (but fardaesm beat me to it!). I would love to have fresh fruit in the winter but we don't have southern exposure ...

I definitely agree with your point #1 - whyyyyyy oh why did we only get Martha for the first ten minutes?! She would have been such a fantastic judge, and would've offered more insight that Natasha Richardson and her heaving bosom. Heh.

I was surprised that Eugene wasn't axed, but he can't be too far off. And neither can Melissa ... Leah hasn't been doing so well either. And we all know they aren't going to get rid of Fabio anytime soon. He is just too funny. I just hope the chefs can get more CREATIVE and wow the judges and tv audience alike.

I have to have an apron on when I cook. It just doesn't feel like cooking without it - we must be on the same wavelength, Michelle of Montreal! The one I wear most frequently was given to me by my mother, and it was a wedding present that she never really put to use. It's a green and white striped 70s glam Marimekko number that thanks to me, isn't in the cleanest of conditions any more. But it IS well loved!

Maybe this is more of a "Good Question" than a comment, but I am thinking about getting a set of knives for The Boyfriend for Christmas. Should we start off with a santoku? Does anyone have any suggestions for just a three-knife set? (I don't find a lot of sense in buying one of those massive knife blocks if he won't use half of it.)

I liked this episode a lot - it kind of showed Jamie's true colors, she is starting to get on my nerves with her attitude -- "I've done TV before, this is so easy" -- and then being a brat about it! And I love Carla, she is a little bonkers but she's representing DC!

We don't have one either ... and I thought I was the only one out there who had to heat the oven to 200 every time I wanted a leftover ...

We are in the process of doing JUST THIS THING in our apartment. We didn't use spray mount adhesive precisely because of the fumes and toxicity. We got eight different pieces of foamboard as the piece we got (an 9x13 map of the world) was in eight wallpaper-sized pieces. We used a roll-on no-VOC adhesive and it has worked like a dream. It took half the time and had no odor whatsoever.

I wouldn't use plywood or anything heavier than foamboard because it will be really difficult to hang.

Now we're just cutting down the pieces to fit them together on the wall. If someone has any idea of how to do that without having to do the whole thing with an exacto knife, I'd be eternally grateful! (And we've called up every hardware/big box store in the area, none of their lumber services have such a fine cutting machine that wouldn't leave us with destroyed foamboard.)

Good luck and I can't wait to see how it turns out!
