Do you read the blog Young House Love? They re-vamped an awkward vanity like that so it fit in better with their bedroom space. Ditched the medicine cabinet and backplash, new mirror and paint, etc. Checking out what they did might provide further inspiration.

I think someone already mentioned this, but I have had a ton of luck with fabric and liquid starch. The fabric will peel off when it's time to move, and you just need to clean up the starch residue. I would also recommend washing the fabric beforehand just to ensure that none of the dye from the fabric bleeds. Good luck!

I'm with emmelemm. I'm in Portland and always skipped the scavenger posts altogether because there was never anything from my corner of the country. Glad to finally see some stuff from my neck of the woods!

On a semi-related side note, I loved that all of the examples were large photos after the jump instead of tiny thumbnails at the top that you have to click through. Please do this more often! So much easier to read through and get a good look at everything.

In response to bepsf, I absolutely think an auto upholsterer worth his or her salt could match up plaids, stripes, and other patterns. Google "custom car upholstery" and I think you will find a lot of designs much more complicated than what you find in the home. (Probably not your style, but complicated nonetheless.)

And I second what everyone else mentioned about the difference between someone who is a mechanic and someone who works on car interiors. I imagine Tiffany's upholsterer was neither burly nor wielding a wrench...

i remember from a tour on here that emersonmade has them all over her house, too, and all i could think then and all i can think now is "cute but oh so uncomfortable!"

hmm, guess i will enter the fray. i see no problem with any of these entries winning their category; i trust that AT took whatever steps it deemed reasonable to reduce or eliminate cheating. however, it seems that maybe in the future a rule should be added that contestants should have to wait until after the contest to have their homes featured on other popular websites. ahem, jordan's sneak peak on d*s today... seems like some really great timing?? i would love to see more than 5 photos for ALL the entries; not fair that only one gets this privilege by being featured on another website that i am sure shares a lot of readers with AT. just my 2 cents.
