Like many previous comments, I am NOT impressed at all, even tough, the video idea to advertise the company was good, but, it can really backfire on them.....it had a lack of design skills, furniture selection and functionality to the room!

In the real world, how long would you take to move that floor lamp out of your way? Beautiful lamp, but, not used correctly.... Ok, dinning table, but wrong chairs..... red credenza is fine, but, why do you want to "highlight" the cheapest furniture of the room?

To make a long story short......after you watched this promotional (advertising) video, are you going to buy the CB2 furniture? it's a NO for me (...and I am not even talking about their furniture quality).... their furniture didn't look good even in a production video w/ design professionals, so, imagine at home!!! So, how efficient was the advertising???

Sorry, not trying to "trash" anyone here, I am just giving my honest opinion!

This design is inspired on William (Billy) Haines chair design called the "Pull up chair", however, he had few different creations that look very similar to yours.....therefor, few different companies manufacture variations of this chair!

Modern Flavor has 2 different styles w/ great quality and price:

It's not that simple or cheap to copy the Charles Sectional, we have done few of them and reupholster several for our "high-end commercial" clients in LA....I agree that $16,000 is a lot of money, but, $1,599 from a similar sofa from Modern Design Sofas is even funny!!! Regarding Ikea and West Elm furniture, with all my respect to those companies, but, they are cheap, don't look the same and it won't last long.....you just can't compared to the B&B Italia sofas, which I am very familiar with their upholstered pieces and furniture's structures!

Few things to think about it:
- What is your budget for a similar (or copy) Charles sectional? This will narrow down your options between Imported furniture (Like: Ikea, West Elm....reads, Chinese Furniture), domestic or custom furniture!
Btw, Chinese foam was finally prohibited in US, but, still can be sold as "furniture" for a little bit longer, it does NOT comply with the Flammability standards of CA technical bulletin # 117, which it will be the US standards in a near future!
Still on the foam issue, a quality foam (HR grade) for this sectional alone based in wholesale price would cost you at least $500-$800 depending on the size, between cushions and padding the frame, which is very important to the longevity of upholstery pieces, besides, all wood materials, labor (carpentry, seamstress and upholster), springs, down, legs.....and the company's profit!

So, my point is: On the long run, "the cheap" furniture will cost you more than a good custom piece, it won't last you more than 2-3 yrs looking decently (unless, if you don't sit on it...just a display piece!) and the first problem that you might have, you could consider throwing away.....most of them, can NOT even be re-upholster.....believe me, I have been in business for while and I had similar experiences with my clients!

Anyways, If you need any advices, send me an email.....as you might have noticed, I appreciate a good design and quality furniture......not really into furniture Corporations that sells crap furniture, making huge profits building overseas and taking advantage of the poor, uneducated labor, which a lot of times are kids!

Let’s keep businesses open in America, spend money wisely having quality domestic products, instead of buying the same product every 4-5 yrs over and over……I am not saying to spend a fortune in a piece of furniture, but, you can pay a reasonable price, depending on the product and still have competitive prices compared to the Big furniture’s corporations! Let me give you a small example…..you can pay $2,000 - $2,500 for a good quality sofa made locally, instead of buying a $1,000 Ikea sofa that does NOT look as nice and it won’t last you long, so, in 3-4 yrs you have spent the same amount of money (buying another sofa from Ikea, when your first one is trashed within couple yrs) and still have a much nicer piece than the Ikea sofa w/ your custom choices!

Also, have you seen the inside (wood frame, glues on the foams, staples…..) of an Imported sofa? You don’t want to see it…..if our kids toys have “crazy bad” chemicals from China, imagine our furniture, which the inspection is not even close!

Think about it and let me know……..
Thanks,
Flave

Here it goes again......this beautiful credenza design and high-quality craftsman work been under rated "wee bit steep about $3,400" and wishes of have a similar design / concept from Ikea???? Do you really think that you will ever get something similar to that from Ikea for half of this price??? Definitely NOT!

I understand that PRICE is a big part in the furniture's purchase process for all of us (I said "us"), but, intellectual property as well! Why publish a review in such a beautiful furniture piece if you called the price a "wee bit steep" and hope that Ikea would have something similar? I didn't got it!
Besides, do you have any idea of prices of "quality" furniture materials???? Nope!

Nothing against you Grace, but, this article is not what this site is all about it or is it? Maybe, I am in the wrong site than!

*PS: Btw, Is Ikea, one of the website's sponsors? That might be the way to go.....advertise overseas business that don't follow the American' s furniture quality standards, when the small retail furniture stores and great local craftsmen are closing their business!

Something to think about it!

I have been to Philip's house in a variaty of ocasions, even tough, the pictures are great, it's really hard for you to have the "feeling" of his house on pictures.....it's a full variaty of details put together along the years!
His house has peaceful feeling, a true believe that you are somewhere else instead of Venice, it doesn't have the Marrocan looks only (except for the furniture), but, a mix of African / Native Mexican influences!!! Underneath of the "guess house" (picture 29), it has an amazing "dinner room" w/ seat's shaped of concrete and a massive dinning table, it gives a feel that you are having a dinner inside of a cave, it's truly unreal.....it's one of the best views of the house and yard!
Since the first time, I went there, I never seen any house like it anyhwere, especially due to the size of the lot, which makes it incredibily well plan....it might have an over all "cold feeling" for some people, but, completely matches their life style! Also, not many pictures of their 2 "walk in fireplaces" and few more private areas of the house, so, the house actually has the "comfy" feeling as well, it's just private!!!

*PS: This is not an Interior Design or Architectural project, he actually designed himself the detail concept of the house and he has been adding new "pieces of his world" in this house for the last 15 years, from new buildings to plants!

Well done Philip!!!

I believe these lights are from FLOS, an Italian co. that has an amazing selection of lights , but, not as easy to purchase in US. I have used their lights in a project before, beautiful, little expensive, but great quality, well worth!!!

It's a little expensive for a sleeper sofa, besides the design is not really functional......if you use both sides for seating/sleeping that means, the sofa has no spring system when it changes to a bed, the back and arms rest in the floor????
Good try......but, still need some more work into the sofa's design!

Come on people, besides all the articles on the crapy Ikea furniture, "yes, it's cheap, but, how cheap is really, if in couple years, you will need to buy a new piece to replace it?....do the math! Now, this "affordable furniture", are you kidding me???? You are lucky if you get more than $50 on Ebay or Craig's List..... btw, I hope you have a liability insurance for it!

".....Here, then, are my brother's guidelines and my top pics for 2008"....Please Maxwell, Ikea and West Elm are your top pics for 2008???? Seriously? No comments on Ikea, Mockduck's comment is enough!
I have bought a West Elm chair for a client by her request, which in 3 months was broken. We requested West Elm an exchange as soon as the frame had broke, the manager completely refused and said "We have great prices, so, don't expect great quality!" Btw, she lives by herself and she doesn't weight more than 130lbs!

I am a furniture designer, manufacturing furniture pieces for showrooms in NYC and LA.....I could make a similar coffee table for you using solid Walnut wood, which seems to be the wood on the picture. Have you thought of a rectangular shape table also?

You probably got the chairs from Loja Designs ( www.lojadesigns.com ) ....I got a pair from there, but, you definitely made look much nicer!
Well done....you probably should think of starting your own Interior Design business for small scale houses.

Lots of modern lighting stores carry a lighting brand from Europe, Italy maybe, called Flos lighting....not cheap or super expensive, but really high-end quality...used in several projects and it's amazing. Cons: If you are willing to wait 4-6wks for shipment, it's well worth to check and it has a very similar design there!
Good luck...cheers.
