Wow! Really great job. I've been in another unit in this complex and it is a challenging little, but beautiful space.

MIO are good people. They make good products in a very green/responsible way.

The desk is very crude. The fake veneer is extremely rough around the edges and is wobbly and falling apart in every display I've passed. I really wanted to like this desk.

I disagree with the closet thing. I moved in December and threw out/donated all my smaller clothes as I had put on a few pounds. I hadn't worn them in over a year and a half.

I move and drop 30 lbs and nothing fits. Very annoying when I know the basics would have fit me and would have taken up 1-2 boxes tops.

This is dangerous. A thing called flash-over is a big risk with this - essentially, if something was to light one on fire, the entire room's wall will go up in flames in a matter of seconds. This is why colleges have rules about posters touching on walls - many-a-dorm fires have been caused by this. Just a 1/2" space between paper on a wall will stop a fire from raging across the entire surface.

I have this light and I love it, but like the light in this picture, it doesn't quite hang level. I've tried everything (weights on top, weights clipped to the high side). It is driving me nuts!

I have a pretty wide experience with tung oil - I used to finish guitars with it and have coated most of a victorian home with the stuff.

Pure tung oil is okay - it isn't as resistant modern finishes, but it looks 110% "deeper" and natural than most modern finishes. After much trial and error I found that the engineered tung oil has the best balances of desirable properties. It is tung oil with dissolved hardening polymers - it builds the deep, oil finish (instead of the plastic coating look of shellac/poly finishes) and it is resistant to wear, water and even alcohol. I once put 25 coats on a guitar and it looked amazing - better than any lacquer yet with no expensive equipment and minimal effort (10 minutes to prep, 10 minutes to cat, 24 to dry).

I wouldn't say it is green as I went through tons and tons of foam brushes using the stuff on the top coats.

Depending on the age of the piece, a hot putty knife will easily separate the veneer from the substrate (if it is newer then you'll have MUCH harder time - natural animal glues are easy to undo). Then you'll need to replace the whole piece. Veneer is cheap, so you can experiment with stain combinations to get the right color.

@bumblebee - I painted my bedroom this color a few places back. It has one rather large window and even the moonlight made it positively glow to the point at which I couldn't sleep. You have to be very committed to this color in a sleeping room.

I have the Helmer and I love it. It has held up, survived a move, and is still going strong. One thing to keep in mind is that the drawers seem to glide better with load. My only gripe is that the drawers are not full extension and if you are not paying attention you can pull whole thing out.

Arggg. I was looking at this table and I couldn't find a US supplier (280 British Pounds plus shipping was an insane price). I broke down and bought something at Ikea *last night*.

I ended up fashioning something similar out of two Ikea Muddus tables. You can arrange it many different ways for wide or narrow a "table". All the chairs at Ikea are just slightly too wide to neatly fit under the narrow side of Muddus so my search continues.

My family tried to do this in the late 1980s. Our land had a great deal of overgrown vegetation and thought this would be a great idea. One afternoon my father showed up with a goat. While it was a neat pet it did nothing to cut down on the overgrowth and it even got loose a few times. We found it about a mile a way. A little old lady had it corned in her car port with a broom.

I do have a TV in the bedroom. I know people will disagree with me but I need it to fall asleep - I live in the middle of a city and the sudden noises will startle me awake in the middle of the night; having the TV volume on low really helps to even out the noise level. I would note that it is a small TV - a simple 13" - I one time had a 27" that the light alone would keep me awake.
