I had a similar issue at my wedding. The room wasn't as dark, but we weren't able to nail anything up either. I stole this idea from a MS Weddings mag. 3' balloons! They really lit up the room and filled up the space. (Also look great in photographs.) My husband and I love our landlords. They're an older Italian couple and super super sweet. The husband periodically leaves bottles of wine on our doorstep, and every December they take us and the two other tenants out to dinner at a local pizza place (which happens to be tonight!) Even though our place is pretty tiny (400ish sq/ft), we want to stay there until we buy our own place, partly because our landlords are so great and that's such a rarity. My husband and I went this morning before 9am. We were in and out in 10 minutes. Our polling place was at an elementary school and there were plenty of volunteers which was a great thing to see. What a great kitchen! I would paint the walls bright white to match the cabinets and use accessories to bring a punchy accent color (red tea kettle, retro-inspired tea towels, stripey rug?). I have an open closet in my bathroom as well (well, it was open after I ripped the ugly doors off!). My solution was a tension rod and a simple rod pocket curtain, floor-length. I looooved the red cabinets, although I agree the kitchen is too dark compared to the rest of the space. Still, it was pretty good for being Jennifer's first kitchen. The white tile floor I noticed was already installed, and it wouldn't have been a good use of time to try and change it. But..yeah, the couch was too big. I live in Downtown Concord (CA), and my place scored 83. With gas so expensive, I walk everywhere...grocery store, farmer's market, local pub, coffee shop, park(s). I'm also in walking distance to BART and numerous bus stops. My husband prefers to bike, but I'm afraid of being hit by a Escalade, so I stick to the sidewalks! Looks better! I understand ads are a huge part of what keeps AT going, and they're much better on the side than the top. Before, I really liked being able to use my arrow keys to navigate so that's a little bummer. Echoing everyone's comments, the gallery and the main page are still not cohesive. Oh wow. I love the Monet. We live in a small apartment and have had to shuffle around my husband's road bike for too long. Yeah, with two monitors, a longer desktop would help with the cramped feel. If it were me, I'd adhere cork to the inside of the filled-in door (or a fabric-covered message board) to make it look purposeful and architectural. If you're going to mount shelves, the little wall on the left would be a great space to utilize at a 90º angle to the desk. Good luck! Small home offices can be so sweet and cozy.
