home made stocks and sauces and breads, breadcrumbs, leftovers from a can of chipotles (there's always some of that), and butter, milk, cheese and cheese rinds (for soups) and the big bag of veg ends that'll become my next batch of stock. What Staples Do You Keep In Your Freezer? |

Beets, for sure. I actually switched CSAs because I got too many beets this year. A few years ago the spouse and I acknowledged we weren't eating a wide range of veg, so we added a new veg a week, which was fun and kept things interesting. use them separately. bison is fantastic, use it anywhere beef is used, but antelope is really ... different ...you need to mask some of that "grassiness" but don't hide your bison's flavor! Best Thing to Do With Ground Antelope, Bison & Venison? Good Questions |

I have adorable spice jars, but they all just sit heaped up on the counter and in wooden shoe boxes. I like the idea of magnets (ala Alton Brown) but I can't think of a place in my kitchen where that would work. I think this is the most important rule of baking your own bread. I'm also "parallel challenged" and that last wonky slice goes into the scrap bread bag in the freezer, where it waits with it's friends to become croutons or breadcrumbs. Quick Tip: Slice Loaves of Bread Before Freezing |
