another upvote for paigep comment.

Bobo only works in very specific situations as many have outlined in the comments. Rich, foreign or rustic... but for most it just looks unkempt, dangerous and dirty. I personally like it in small doses, or when it is translated to art...but other then I cosign the poverty isnt cool...when you are actually living it statement.

oh man F-zero and Mario Kart on SNES.

James Bond Golden eye on Nintendo 64 and the death battles with friends.

I will forever regret lending my still working original childhood Ninetendo system to a friend in college and never seeing it again.

pets. as stated above, I got two critters that are non-negotiable.

hardwood floors, no carpet. lots of windows. relatively safe neighborhood ...and charm/character.

I don't get the replace the toilet seat thing either. I never realized people even did this until AT. Unless its cracked or seriously an odd shade of discoloration... its meh to me. Nothing Clorox cant kill.

well, one of the first things I do (cause ya know I'm Californian boho bred) is light sage and walk through the house. Sounds kookie this works for me to feel secure that only positive energy now lives in my home.

I also strip down the ugly blinds or roman shades. Put up curtains.

It honestly doesn't feel like home though till my 'Rents come to visit and or I have other out of town guest spend the night/weekend. Once I have other guests in my house and my role is now hostess. It all clicks into place.

ohh I love your home!!! It seems so airy and peaceful. The nearly ceiling wide double murals are nothing but awesome. You did a fantastic job rehabbing it- even on the fly. Plus, I have those same graphic black and white pillows so obviously you have great taste.

lol @ Bruintoo- I get what your saying but these are legit smaller neighborhoods encompassed by larger ones. That's all LA is anyways. The area described as Hollywood knolls dates back to the end of 50s/early 60s. Its not AT coming up with the names...its vintage LA :)

what a lovely living room! it has great architectural details. I personally think one sofa is the best fit due to the flow of the room.

I probably would go with one sofa with its back towards the dn, facing two arm chairs with their backs to the window. that way you can watch tv from the sofa if should be, enjoy the fireplace and have an inviting living room upon entry.

On first glance however your living room totally reminded me of the living room space from the blog door sixteen. (http://www.doorsixteen.com/2011/01/03/the-living-room-has-a-black-wall/) while your space looks bigger and with more doorways, their one sofa and tv placement might give a suggestion for you?

love all the fruit fly remedies! I do normal vinegar or a bit of coke in a water bottle with paper rolled funnel. They are attracted to the sweet smell, walk down the funnel and cant fly back out. I love it because after the massacre. I just take the funnel off and screw back on the water bottle cap and toss.

I bought a pair of lamps for my living room credenza/shelf thingie because I loved the shape and patter on base. Color was this weird texture-y rubbed bronze. So I painted...3/4 of the pair white. got bored. still need to replace the lampshades. one is white..the other is tan.

its been a year. They have blended into the background and I don't notice until I'm dusting. I bought a can of white spray paint to finish the paint job...two weeks ago.

I fear it will be a project (amongst many) I will never finish.

ohh they look great!! My aunt had a pair of bamboo shelves very similar to these, along with the now iconic peacock chairs.

Im not a paint it white hater by any means because I think as wonderfully proven in this case...its always a good bet. They would look great though in a candy color (like lime or blue...although very Adler I guess)

What a beautiful home!

I may be biased since I call this little neighborhood tucked away in Hwood home as well, but what an awesome decor job! There is nothing I love better then taking an evening stroll and admiring a historic home like this one from the windy, staired road(s). Its everything I love about LA.

Now where is my invite to the annual holiday party :)

lovely bones and some really great pieces!!! I love La Canada and its a great place to start and raise a family I give nod to our neighbor (Said as a Pasadenian)

the white washed effect made it hard to make out some details but I loved what I saw.

and for all those wondering, the mirrored expedit doors...you can buy at ikea. I believe they are just called expedit inserts with mirrors.

oh here is a link much easier: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70183416/

I'm with Prue on this one. what a blanket statement to make about "Europe" or claim something as a European Culture that maaaybe one country in all of the continent subscribes to...if even that.

I'm 1/2 Dutch. I have never ever seen my family, friends etc eat a salad after. I grew up eating salad either before but usually alongside the main meal (big old bowl of salad next to the main dish) Last I checked the Netherlands was "European" but with that in mind I'm sure everyone else eats french fries and mayo...
