Some really great posts here on how to solve your color dilemma-- It takes me weeks to pick color sometimes depending on the room, light and time of year.
Personally, when I look at your room it makes me feel chilly -- white wouldn't be my first choice, unless you were going to add a lot of texture and depth with art, textiles, etc..
If you're dead set on white, have you considered breaking up the walls with a board and batten or wainscoting or a picture rail? You could then have the best of both worlds..depending on what you like. Color on top, light on bottom...Feels like the room is a bit cavernous and flat.

Have you looked at the Luna Chair? It's dimensions are good for small spaces, such as yours and it is lovely to look at.
Overall: 28.5"w x 28.5"h x 31"d
Seat Width: 22"
Seat Height: 16.5"
It comes in a variety of finishes and in a low back and high back. It also has a matching ottoman. I think it would look smashing with sheepskin. It's going to be about three times as much as the Ikea piece, which is a nice alternative, too. Depends on your taste, budget and if you're looking for a statement piece.
You might place it under that window -- it's kind of hard to tell how the room is oriented from the picture, however the drawing helps. You could always pull the ottoman to the side and let it double as a side table when not in use.
Good luck!

All good suggestions... I like the slipcover idea b/c you can wash em...and you could also use an outdoor fabric, like Sunbrella or the like, which is treated to resist water and stains if you like the white -- which, I do too, btw. I have five cats, a dog, kids and husband -- we have white heavy denim slipcovers --and I've never looked back.
I've also had success with a product called Vectra for waterproofing my covers -- helps resist stains.
Depending on your upholstery person, there are some Duralee fabrics which can be ordered with a Teflon coating --they are quite plain, but have a nice weave about them--seems like you wouldn't need more than a few yards for your chairs.

I've tried every method above and my now favorite is to salt bake potatoes. After cleaning and drying them, nestle in a 9x13 pan filled with 2 1/2 c Kosher salt. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 - 1/14 hours at 450 degrees. Remove aluminum foil, turn up the temp to 500, brush with olive oil, put back in oven for 10-15 min to crisp up skin. The salt makes the interior of the potato super fluffy...and you can reuse the salt for making potatoes again.

Hi, you may have already gotten your answers, but I'd like to chime in.
I live in West Michigan, which might be far, far away from you, however I will tell you any good upholsterer worth his salt will gladly do a fine craftsman job of reupholstering and replacing the foam on your chairs ANY DAY than give you a chuckle. Now it may set you back on your haunches to hear their quote, but you get what you pay for.

It may cost upwards of $500-800.00 per chair including the cost of foam, fabric and labor...would be my best guess (if you have fabric tastes like mine...).

I have an upholsterer here, originally from the Netherlands, whom I work with from time to time. He's never steered me wrong. He insists that good bones trump replacing a piece. Manufacturers save money by using cheap foam...so a good upholsterer will make you something to last and will take pride in sending your pieces out the door in showroom quality. Often times they have a close relationship with a custom woodworker who can touch up the frame if need be and it will be included in the price (unless they open your piece and it's something major). If it were me and I were in love with my pieces, I'd save up and keep enjoying them.
Perhaps you haven't gotten called back b/c the shops are busy -- summer can be a very busy time.
Good luck!

I have been the single working woman who had a cleaning lady come twice a month and now I'm the 40 something mom who has done all of the above. In fact, this spring I have uber-organized the closets (all but one...), cabinets, kitchen cabinets, shed...it's a great feeling AND a gift that keeps on giving. In no way do I feel perfect or superior, just less frazzled when I need a band-aid or when I'm at the store and I don't have to wonder "do we need that...?"
Although I must admit a certain satisfied-smile comes over my face when I open my fridge and it's clean, organized and has food in it for the week (or at least two days -- when you have three kids).

Thank you all for your input! I knew I'd have an answer in less than three hours!
I have to snicker a little at the good ol' AT banter; we have a MBP and a smaller HP tablet and our iMac.
Agreed portability is handy, but nothing beats sitting at your desk with your big huge monitor, with all your stuff at the ready for doing work in Photoshop or even just surfin the net sans staring at 11 inches of screen real estate till your eyes start to burn (maybe it's just my age).
We're going to be in Canada later this summer -- perhaps with this beauty strapped to the roof on the way home!
Thank you!

I've been zoning out to the Marconi Union song for several months now -- and it's by far my favorite way to take a brain freeze mid - day. I found that it did take at least five minutes for my heartbeat to "synch" with the music and it was something I was not aware of that was intentional until I read this post.
I think it's funny to read all the different reactions from people and the different things that help us find our happy place. Good stuff!

As an equestrian and a owner of fine leather furniture for my home, too... I second the Lexol products. They can soften, hydrate and clean. Leather Therapy is another good line of products, as well as Antares Leather Conditioner (not the oil). I would avoid saddle soaps and oils unless you don't mind darkening your chocolate baby.

Oh Lord! I entered the vortex...
It took me several years to get it, but I love my Kindle AND I still love my books, too! Most I donated to our local library and charity, but a few treasures I kept because I just love reading books.
NOW, I'm drooling over the new iPad2! So steely in resolve was I b/c it's not a necessity -- but lo, a few years and updates later, my older eyes are having trouble with the iPhone for browsing and IP2 has the upper hand on portability v my MBPro...especially for travel (however, I can't say it would replace my Kindle). Never thought I would be getting one, but I have to say....I may be a three-apple girl after-all.

I'd agree that the 2nd couch is a No, IMHO. Could your sweet husband compromise -- Ikea has leather sofas for just over your price range http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69876003/
-- clean lines (some tufting). It can be challenging to find good quality and design that you both love!
good luck!
