@carabrob - The chest isn't an antique, it just looks like that. It actually has a veneer so the paint isn't peely.

Thanks everyone!

Before I was pregnant, I ate after my morning workout (usually 1.5 hours after I get up). Breakfast is usually a fruit smoothie or an egg with oatmeal.

Now that I'm pregnant, I have to eat the second I get up. I have a small bowl of cereal, workout, then have a smoothie.

I don't feel like I'm ready to leave the house if I haven't eaten breakfast!

I third the Whole Foods Decaf! I'm pregnant so I had to switch to decaf and it almost tastes like real coffee! I really miss real coffee. And wine. But that's a bit off topic.

I LOVE smoked salmon, but I do find that the smoked flavor mellows a bit when you heat it up. Some of my recipes: Smoked Salmon, Goat Cheese & Spinach Empanadas

I love my pressure cooker! Same as everyone mentioned above, but also for things like Pork Ragu: http://www.bitchincamero.com/2009/09/pressure-cooker-pork-ragu/

I'm actually going to make some short ribs tonight. It's august and I want to enjoy my beefy ribs without having the oven on for 3 hours!

@charybdis112 - I'm really glad you liked them! I've been getting so many in my CSA box that I had to come up with a new way to prepare them. Of course my mind went straight to pork...

I made it too and it was dangerously addicting! I used ginger sugar instead of the brown and subbed almonds for sunflower seeds. I also added a bit more salt for a salty/sweet thing. It was amazing.

Also, pound for pound, much less than the granola I usually buy.

Spanish chorizo is cooked, then dried - so it doesn't need to be refrigerated. It has the characteristic bright red color is heavily spiced with paprika. Portuguese chourico is similar to Spanish chorizo.

Mexican chorizo is usually fresh (not dried) and flavored with different seasonings (not paprika). The kind Whole Foods sells at the meat counter is Mexican chorizo (and is delicious with eggs and flour tortillas!).

Just thought I'd point out the difference.

Besides my undying love of figs (seriously, I can't get enough!), I think this is a beautiful book. I don't own many cookbooks, but I'm dying for a copy of this one. The ideas about food, flavor combinations and recipes really excite me. This is exactly the kind of food I love to make. Not to sound over-eager or anything...

@art - I LOOOOVE your tile! It's beautiful! In fact, I love the whole kitchen :)

@SisterRae - Beautiful kitchen! I agree that the open kitchen actually keeps people out of the way, but still close enough to chat.

Open is an absolute MUST for me. We recently bought a condo and the first order of business was tearing out the wall between the kitchen and the living/dining area.

I spend 60% of my time in the kitchen when I'm home and do not want to feel isolated. I love being able to entertain guests while putting the finishing touches on dinner and I love that my husband is able to sit at the bar and chat when I make weeknight meals.

We had no popcorn - thank GOD! But we did have a couple of those drop ceilings. They were the first to go! I don't envy your weather. I lived in Boston for 4 years and NYC for 4 years and am very glad to be back in the sub-tropics :)

Thanks, art! We had to live with my parents for a year to be able to afford it, but it was worth it in the end :)

What's a Florida ceiling? Born and raised here and never heard of it!

The bathroom tile and stone backsplash are both from Porcelanosa.

No window in my kitchen, but it's completely open to the living and dining rooms. We have a whole wall of windows and another wall of sliding doors. If I look right when I'm standing at the stove, I can see the ocean.

We bought the place because of its windows and light (even if we did have to tear out all the walls in the kitchen)!
