I would HAVE to know its eco credentials - we have one planet left guys, and last I looked, we've broken it.

@ Melinda LOL!

If I knew sprouting foods were a GOOD thing, I'd have submitted my "coffee cup with unknown fungus" - from '96 - or maybe not!

That is one neat phot of an otherwise useless food (though I;d have it in salad, wth) - ta!

What a concept! I'd have it in black and red (traditional, I know) for romantic adventues, but I'd have to have a "beddy"-bed, one that just stays still and is rather dull, for sleeping...

I also want to see just ONE bright red in there - maybe a photo of a red chili over the bed (prob'ly bad feng shui! LOL) but something, to feed the hungry eye?

Viewing in Firefox (latest version, and Windows XP home) I get a "error: 500 Internal server Error" grey box message when I try to comment. Works fine in IE6.

Bummer, because this site calls for multiple tabs and da Fox is the best browser for it!

Woohoooo!

As a keen eco-person (ie wants a decent planet for my grandchildren!) I seldom get the consumer har*-*n for any one product... that alarm clock at the top though? Did it!

Which one fits your storage needs best?

"Have nothing in your that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."

William Morris

Or, toss a coin, I think it was Freud who said that any reaction to that idea, along lines, "I might make the wrong choice" means you know the RIGHT choice! :o)

Nice pieces though, rehome the losers with care!

I agree, pedestal table would be better. I'd go for a new table and the chairs in tomato, Pantone, bright red, or that table and a light aqua/blue for the chairs, to take in the glass and the skylight. Actually, on reflection - I prefer the second idea!

The whole thing would merge into that bay window, and look yumm.

kaanswfm - put them in JUST ONE PLACE, always, no ifs/buts - put a hook near your front door, or a table, but make that The Place - trust me, I nearly got evicted some 10 years ago because I was so chaotic, make it a law you stick to, and make things in general easier to put away than they are to take out.

Sheesh!

My top tip for plane travel is - get amiably drunk before you board - that way, you won't mind the body-search before boarding, you'll probably even ask for their number after....

And, don't eat the food on the plane, and above all, if you're a man wearing lipstick who wants to insert his own chintzy seat cover, then you may just be the least likely "terrorism" suspect on earth.

Not a reason to do it, but quite a funny payoff nonetheless.....

Meh, you're probably some kind of insurgent if you can't see that having your "home interior experience" chosen for you is good, these days I ALMOST wish I was so braindead as to actually be like that.

Still, I'm not.... SOD IT!

Sound thinking - I hope this idea hits the mainstream, where it will do much good.

(OT) I tried to get Ikea UK to talk about brominated flame retardents in their matresses - I got a really condescending custserv call back, assuring me that if I'd heard about them in "chemical warfare" (which, I'd not - just the fact they're in breastmilk and are not desirable!) I had no need to worry, because - well I forget the rest of what he said, it was basically "buy our sh1t"....

Good stuff though, and let's hope that consumer power makes that kind of chemical toxin as redundant as bearbaiting!!

@ Anokha - I read the comments and I feel for your sitch, because a few years back I lived in an apartment in central London - and, everyone said to me, don't paint a bedroom, black?!

Everyone says, if you have a dark room, make it bright, do the whites, yellows, whatever. Flowers. Sheers.

Well, I painted my gosh-darned north-facing bedroom DAMNED matt BLACK, with a maroon ceiling, dark grey flooring (major budgeting, made do with the floor tiles that were already there - a rockn mama lived there before me!) and black bedlinen.... and I was NEVER so pleased with a result as that!

It was possibly THE most stylish space I will ever create.

I did one wall insert in pale blue, which was superb, and if you can do any contrast on this, and it's appropriate, do consider it - it lifts the "black" into heavenly realms.

If you have your heart set on this then go for it - my limited experience would be, take off the hardware, do some primer, sand, whatever, but lash on that dark stuff like there's no tomorrow, because black can look so STUNNING that you'll laugh at the naysayers afterwards - I did!

Now, what's that Rolling Stone's song again?.....

Try adding some turquoise/aqua to that mix, and some bright scarlet - they must be some comfy seating, but as I discovered just this day you can lift those earthy brown tones right up to heaven, by adding some of the highest and lowest colours in the rainbow.

Just a thought, and I don't know your decor/taste, so discard it like crazy if I'm off-track there!! ;o)

Not my style, but wisely mentioned as safe for kids, for whom hooks might encourage dangerous pirate hanging games (LOL) or, completely seriously, not be good.

...I think my aunt used to have mushrooms growing out her kitchen wall that looked like that.... happy days!

PS To qualify my comment - all the above are good, but I'm a lighthound, I can't exist without good access to windows, views, lots of!

Draped sheers - that you can draw back, "R" shape, if you need them - but if you have no overviewers, make the most of the sky IMO!

The rug idea sounds great to me too, they define a space and if you check out ethnic markets (have to say, I don't know the score in NYC but that's true of London) you might find something affordable that helps define that cozy space where you can enjoy a bit of tv, whatever!

Also - bit woowoo but when you FIRST viewed this place, before you did the contract doozy, what did you see yourself (yourselves) doing - is there anything you can take from that?

We so often lose our vision in the everyday...

Home is where the heart is - hope we hear an update on your choices! :o)

Apartment Therapy New York | NY Good Questions: Decorating Options for the Living Room?
2/24/08 2:15 PM

Place a large mirror - or as cheap as even just some mirrored plastic tiles, or a thrift shop job, or even cheapo tiles wrapped in shiny bacofoil, and go for LONG, not TALL - this to reflect the window BACK to you to where you are sitting on the couch.

It will double the main feature of this room, and widen that space immediately.

Get either 2 big plants, or (on a budget) some fun mobile stuff (crazy carnival kites, stupidly plastic fake plants, something) on each side of that window to give the primal brain the notion that the outside is more inside, thus spreading the power of what looks to be a decent urban view.

Finally, put that tall standing lamp thats shown as oppo. the couch more towards the side of the windows as well, it's highlighting a big load of nothing where it stands, put it on the l.hand (as we're viewing) and it'll draw attention outwards.
