thank you.

kdkaboom:

thanks!!

Lizzykewl:

The dining room fixture is a Cellula Chandelier, designed by Nunzia Carbone and Tiziano Vudafieri, produced by Anthologie Quartett with Swarovski Crystal. Ours came from Moss on Greene Street.

I could suggest a better place for you to shove it.

Thank you.

Thank you. The brick walls are pretty much the only thing left from pre-renovation. We tried to preserve them everywhere we could, and even revealed them in places where the prior owners had them covered.

Shawn:

Thanks. Yes, the curtain hides the second entrance.

SFGail:

Thank you very much. The apartment is on the market, if you're interested in buying it.

The rug came from ABC Carpet.

Sorry I did not get your phone message until you had already posted the house tour. Details you requested: Holly and I both work in advertising. She is with BBH-- EA to the ECD. I am an independent Creative/AD, working primarily in new media. I'm currently developing for M&Ms at G2, and launching ThinkMusic.net , an independent project/joint venture between PrimaryWave Music Publishing and Pulse Recording Studio. At one time I briefly studied architecture at Pratt. -- ChrisGrayson.com

There was actually a lot of detail included on the site with the pictures:

The track lighting is Lightolier and came from LightForms on Amsterdam. The kitchen pendents are Flos Fuscia One, ordered direct from Italy, but they are available many places around town.

bumblebeechicago:

Thank you. Yes, a great deal of thought was put into lighting, especially in the kitchen for this very reason.

Juliet:

Thank you, thank you. Ha, ha-- I can relate. I have a personal issue with TVs in the living room (as in, all the furniture arranged around a TV. Note there isn't one).

SadieinDC:

Thanks.

labchick:

Thank you. The orignal plan was broken up in a very strange way. I tried to lay the place out to be conducive to entertaining, and it has proved to work well. We did actually try the second Wassily chair on the opposite side of the sofa, but it really gets in the way there-- both in the foot traffic, and with access to the bookshelf. It also splits the space up and makes it smaller. Moving it over to the side of the credenza opens the space up quite a bit. In regular (non-staged, he-hem) use, honestly it mostly serves as a coat rack. Guests always toss jackets and purses there. Just works out that way.

jooly:

Thank you.

Nani:

You and Blah Blah should bunk up.

beyd:

Thanks neighbor.

I cannot remember the name of the bathroom medicine cabinet. It was relatively inexpensive (like $175?), and was ordered through Blackmen's on 5th Avenue. The bathroom sink is the Domino 75 with right side basin, made by Catalano of Italy. Faucet is from Hansgrohe's Axor line. The under-sink drain and valve hardware is High-Tech AG of Germany.

Blandwagon:

Thank you. And yes we actually cook at home several nights a week. We make good use of the kitchen. The pots and pans are All-Clad in stainless steel. They clean up nicely, but are used all the time.

glassesgirl:

Thank you.

I was in the Soho Prada several months back. I was snapping some pictures with my camera phone. A security guard came over and told me very sternly that I had to put my camera phone away.

I replied just as sternly--
"No I won't. I'm going to take pictures... It's your move."

He asked me once more, less stern and a little befuddled. I ignored him, took my pictures and when I was done, I went on with my business.

Maybe I was rude, but their policy was rude first. I'm a regular shopper there. I'm wearing Prada shoes as I type this.

Sometimes you have to call people's bluff.

Ask yourself, what are they really going to do? Do you think they'll actually tackle you and wrestle your camera away? No, of course not.

Ah, the comments appear if I click on the title link instead of the "comment" link.

Oh good grief, march3rd, why have they not banned your account yet?

Anybody happen to notice that march3rd posts on almost every thread, at the end of the day after it's quiet, with a link to their own website?

It's all SEO.

Cut it out, or at the very least post something of relevance to the topic instead of just SPAMMING your link at the end of every thread.

Is it me, or is the site having issues for the past couple of days?

On the home-page, it says this has 31 comments, but when I click to add a comment, and go into the actual post there are none, and it says 0 comments.

Very strange.

Of course, if this were happening to others, they wouldn't know to respond because they wouldn't be able to read my post.

Firstly, may I compliment that you have a good open space to work with, and a few good starter pieces to work around. Bravo on making a good start.

FOUR THINGS WOULD BRING YOUR SPACE TO THE NEXT LEVEL:

1.) Bring bright color in with a modern rug.

sample 3

2.) Move your sectional over towards the window and arrange it out into the room, not all against the walls -- Let the fireplace be the anchor. Then move the two chairs back into the corner where the sectional is now. This will create two separate seating areas. One more social around the fireplace, one more intimate, with the two chairs.

3.) Lose the lincoln-log stair-railing, and install some modern architectural railing.

4.) Invest in at least one big plant.

Good luck with your new space.

Chris

The IKEA's drawers are too deep for a flat file, and too shallow for general purpose. The win in the price category, but even in that tiny little picture, they look cheap. I'm sure the metal gauge is going to be half or a third as thick. They also have no label holder on the drawer pull.

I know Bisley is going to be quality.

I voted for the Pottery Barn based on being on wheels.

Otherwise it would have been a toss-up. Honestly, it would also depend on the home/office space. In some circumstances I would prefer to be wheel-less.

I am lucky and very grateful to have several parks nearby.

I'm within walking distance of the Columbus Circle entrance to Central Park.

The playground park, Hell's Kitchen Park, is at the corner of my block:

BUT MY FAVORITE PARK is a neighborhood community park. One that was originally appropriated from abandoned lots, and is now leased from the city by the Hell's Kitchen Neighborhood Association, called Clinton Community Garden, on 48th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues:

They also have many photos here:

I'm surprised, having done a search, it doesn't look like AT has ever done a feature on Clinton Community Garden (hint, hint).

It looks like the cabinets are new, and probably pretty solid. You could save a ton of money and give your kitchen a brand new look by only replacing the cabinet doors.

To brighten the room up, I would recommend either white lacquered finish, or a very light wood, such as sycamore.

Also, I'm guessing that you're trying for a more modern/contemporary look. If so, do away with any beveled frame and the doors will instantly look more contemporary.

And if you do go with a lighter wood grain-- run the grain horizontal instead of vertical. A seamless panel of a light wood in a horizontal grain will give a much more contemporary look. It will also position the grain to move the eye with the flow of your kitchen space better, and likely make the room appear a little larger.

To bklyn413,

Having custom glass cut is actually very affordable. I have uses Clinton Glass for this myself for years, not just because Bill is in my neighborhood, but his prices are the best I know in Manhattan, and he's a real good guy.

666 9th Avenue
(212) 242-1350

I was actually a little surprised just now to see that he has a website:
http://www.clinton-glass.com/

See here on Google maps.
His gate is closed in the street view, but that's his little shop:

We have two Heywood Wakefield pieces.

They have a really great selection there.

As far as the price, $50 would be a steal at a flea market, and still an ok price for Craig's List.

I'm not crazy about the lines. But that's subjective. I like my mid-century pieces to have a little more funk, little more Jetsons. It's a conservative piece. But that may fit your needs, decor and taste.

The real question is, do you like it?

It's difficult to tell from the small and slightly out of focus images just what kind of condition it is in.

Funny, when my wife and I were dating, she lived in the 2nd story apartment directly across 19th street. When we looked out the windows, it looked straight onto that house.

So one of those windows in the background, in the photo of them seated there, should be the window of her old apartment.

Small house. Small world.

No joke.

I live off of avocados. I eat something with avocado pretty much every day (sometime lunch and dinner). I'm an avocado junkie.

But they are so finicky! Seems like they are not ripe for days, then they are ready for eating for like 12 minutes, and on the 13th minute, they turn to brown mush inside!

Is there an avocado season?

I was getting great avocados regularly, earlier in the year. But the past month or so, it has been difficult. Or had I just been getting lucky? (or unlucky lately?)
