That white slipcovered bench? Bjoberg! They used to advertise it as a bedroom bench (although we use ours as a window seat). I luckily bought two of the slipcovers, but am always on the lookout for extras. No dice. Yet. I would have loved some Bemz covers too, but it was discontinued before they even existed. :(

What an amazing job! The room is now so happy and bright, I just love it. So inspiring to see how you can transform something that hideous (oh my god! that wallpaper was AWFUL and those window treatments just look like they smelled of cigarette smoke and 30 years of mold) to something so CLEAN and fun looking. It's a look I prefer to that whole zen spa light greens and pale blues you always see at any rate. This is perfect for kids and guests alike!

I saw these yesterday! On clearence at my local Target. No joke, I eyed them since they were so pretty but don't go with my color scheme.

Good luck!

I'm currently staining all the cabinets a dark espresso/java color (to be followed by doors and trim work) in my new house (trying to finish before we move in) to tone down some seriously dated and orange-ing woodwork. I decided against painting white just because it was going to be soooo much work and any mistakes I made would be obvious. I got a professional quote for just the kitchen cabinets of $2450. Anyway, I suggest gel staining. It is easy. I am not crafty or handy in any way and I can do it. I found detailed directions here that I'm following to the letter and it is working out just fine, though don't be fooled, it takes some time, though very little money (less then $100 not counting yet to be purchased new hardware), and if I don't like it in the end or change my mind in a couple of years I can always paint white right over it: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/decor/msg0211062720691.html

Good luck whatever you decide and congrats on your new home!

So, quiltmaster, to make a room "look" bigger I should be looking for a cool, pure color either dark or light,(minimize the gray)? Or the opposite? Sorry, I'm trying to pick a color for my new kitchen which gets very poor natural light and I keep getting confliciting opinions about what I should be doing.

For my weekend: the linen closet is a mess. Nothing is broken, but a pillow fell on me last week when I opened the door. Things are overstuffed and falling off shevles. My housekeeper can't be expected to put things on the right shelf if I can't cull my collection of sheets and pillowcases to a reasonable number. I'll then clean the shelves and vaccum the floor in there. Then I WILL take what I get rid of to the charity drop before Monday. I will NOT let it sit in the trunk of my car for three months and drive it around like a lazy idiot.

Just wished to point out, in that photo before the jump, a color is named "DEAD SALMON" which is...descriptive, if not exactly appealing.

Too bad you don't get a commission on these posts because I'm buying the fancy handheld one for my kids bathroom this week. We have terrible water pressure in our new house, combined with the fact that currently the shower head in that bathroom has a leak patched with a band-aid, this was a timely post.

I kid you effing not. A band-aid. Who considers that a real fix to a plumbing problem??

Anyway, thanks so much for the tip!

I like this, but yeah I too would like to see it in the context of the kitchen. Where exactly is it? How big is it really? The photos don't tell the real story so it's hard to have a solid opinion.

I loved this post, but god! The comments! How terrible to have to defend yourself against such nastiness especailly when you never asked to be linked to in the first place. Ann Marie, you have a super blog and I appreciate the ideas on how to organize even if I don't have the inclination to implement them. I'm happy AT linked to you, otherwise I would never have discovered it!

There needs to be some moderating going on AT. Seriously, WTF? The comments on this site are getting to be a joke. Every kitchen update is met with scorn, every living room photo ridiculed if it doens't look like a mid-century hotel room, and now simple labeled baskets for cleaning supplies evoke nothing but bile. Nice, people. Nice.

Re: the Maxwell from RH- I was in the store about a week or so ago and a sales woman told me the sale runs until the end of the month. Bonus, at least at the store in Corte Madera, CA they were throwing in delivery at no cost so you may want to go in to an actual location instead of ordering online. I was tempted. Very tempted.

Just a thought Chrisgal- not everyone is intending to resell their homes. At some point most people find a "forever" house, one they are going to live in for a long time, decades even. To fearfully decorate your home for 20 plus years based on the neutral taste of some unspecific potential buyer is just sad.

In this case, I doubt painting those dated cabinets is going to hurt resale anyway. It looks a million times better. It would be easier for potential buyers to see the painted cabinets painted another color vs. trying to imagine those ugly wood cabinets painted in the first place.

I was in a RH two days ago and saw one of these. It actually looked totally awesome. I could see it working in a lot of different spaces. It is certainly a departure for the chain so good for them for trying something new that isn't totally outside their core merchandise.

Way late to this... but, yeah, I don't particularly like this unit, but I agree furniture makers need to get on the ball with solutions. So you hang a flat screen on the wall? Most people then have a console below it (where the television could just as easily sit) with all the components and accessories. Seems like a lot of wasted effort in a lot of cases.

PS The purpose of a flat screen, like a tube, is to watch television.
