Ditto on annie_o's take on perverse "patriotism."

Also, was a bit chagrinned about the "celebration" of breweries. Since alcohol's one of the biggest killers in this country, it's really not that different from a map celebrating where all the cigarette factories are. We need to become more discriminating. Folks who want to brew their own, that's fine. I'm talking about murderous corporate greed.

@tdubb2008 LOL! "147 things." And I don't think anyone's yet mentioned light bulbs? In case any are missing, or too dim, or too bright.

The other "thing" I'd add is, if possible, paying a day or two of double rent, so you can sleep at your old place but get in and clean the new one thoroughly - even paint, if allowed - without boxes everywhere and/or cleaning/paint smells while you sleep. This also gives you time to measure windows etc; and to realize more things you'll need like the great suggestion of push-pins for temporary curtains.

Huge improvement, IMO, especially for the weight of the drawers.

@minimalist1750, thanks for that explanation about quarter-sawn oak. I never realized why all that oak furniture available a few decades ago looked so unattractive.

I like this article. I think it's sad when society condemns people who are forced to complain because they're being treated inconsiderately. It's much much better to encourage being considerate.

WOW, the petal rug! I clicked thru, turns out it's made by homeless women! There's other neat stuff they sell, too.

The bedspread is absolutely too beautiful for words.

Love it, sometimes even the fake stuff. Except when it's paired with a color on a neighboring wall that has nothing to do with it.

Hmm... the rubber-band pinging idea IS intriguing! BUT, an alternative could be to CONGRATULATE yourself each time you do it right! And have lots of wastebaskets, make it as easy for yourself as possible to begin with.

Very nice exterior! The interior looks a bit like a cross between a dorm room and a nursery - (short) sheets for curtains? An overabundance of cutesy toys? Plants in the original plastic pot? What gives here, AT?
